Emission control issue, PLEASE HELP!!
this morning my girlfriend took our 2004 RX8 with 82000 miles and a MT to work. yesterday i had just replaced the alternator with a brand new one and everything was perfect on the car. when she got it to work she had a engine light on. i took it to auto zone to have it tested and the code is as follows
P0456 x2
EVAP Emission Control System Leak
very small
can anyone tell me what this means and if so how to fix it. we are tired of having trouble with our car we love so much. thanks a lot for any help

More than likely your gas cap.
First, go disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then re-connect it and see if that makes it go away. Remeber....after the battery disconnect, you might have to do the ECU reset which is turn the car to on but don't start, turn wheel all the way to the right and then all the way to the left, then turn the car off. After that, start as normal......if the P0456 comes back up, then go get a new gas cap.

+1 gas cap.
There is a TSB on this.
It is true that had you used the search feature at the top of the screen, you would probably have found several threads telling you the same thing, and you might want to read those anyway as it is a more full answer than you are getting here, but Welcome to the board anyway. I hope that you love your '04 8 as much as I love mine!
