The clutch replacement was the most recent major work done on my rx8 and since then i have had one issue or the other, ssv code, knocking sound out of nowhere. Can a clutch pressure plate bolt stop the rx8 from cranking, also clutch and gears are operating perfectly and never had a problem with both since the clutch was changed.
Any response is appreciated.

Thanks.
So it wont crank over now ?

Hi Kiwiaudio and guys, yeah it won't crank over, so i have utilised the lockdown, pulled out the plugs, coils and removed the cat, the coils were all fake ones- no burnt marks though, all plugs were trailing plugs instead of 2 leading, 2 trailing - no oil on them 50% clean, the cat is 80% gone, bits and pieces rambling inside, but the metal net is still in tact, so the next stage is to remove the clutch and inspect it. Let me know what you all think and thanks again for your contribution on this issue.

Update on my rx8 delima, new ngk plugs and coils fitted, new 8.5spec leads fitted, new 14 tooth 2.2kW starter motor fitted, battery is less than 2 years old, stored in warm environment, left out the cat disconnected and the ac Compressor disconnected. The engine doesn't crank, but keeps making the noise in the video link below.
.

Let me what you think. Thanks.

If im hearing that right, it sounds like a dead battery making the starter motor stutter. Thats usually accompanied by dash lights fading out as you crank, which yours is doing. If not the battery, then check ground cables, in particular the engine block to neg terminal.

Hi Kiwi, yes i narrowed it to my battery being flat 11.7 volts 150 cca instead of 640cca on a battery that is barely 2 years old, it's now on charge and will know fully when i get the battery back from the parts store. Please can you point me to where on the engine block the ground cable is, so i can check it. Thanks.

Follow your negative battery cables from the battery. One will go to the engine, the other to the framework. Your issue will more than likely be the battery though. It is not necessarily bad, maybe just discharged. Store will need it fully charged to test.

Yeah Kiwi, the store is gonna charge it fully and test the cca before returning it to me. I donno if you've followed my thread from the beginning, was having a knocking noise i was trying to investigate with no luck, but on the day it stopped to crank it started straight away when i went to warm the car but half way through this it made a pop sound and lost power instantly, so i parked up and inspected the car, no obvious sign, tried to start it but no luck, so recovered it home, updated the ignition system, so still baffles me why it won't crank. When i bought the car it had a weak battery in it, but it always started first time even with the knocking noise.

Turn the engine manually with a wrench. I bet you find the noise in about 5 minutes. It sounds big, like heavy metal, so fingers crossed its something simple and stupid.

Thanks Kevin will try that, i just hope it's not the stationary gear bearing, my Rex wasn't behaving like one, no vibration, no loss of power, gearbox and clutch still works fine, its really strange to the point where it also sounds like a ac compressor bearing gone, i know its not the ssv, cos i have removed that and cleaned it up, yet the codes points towards that direction. P2259 secondary air injection circuit b inefficient.

Rx8 update, battery fully charged 13.2 volts 620cca, still no crank, so i know its not the battery, just sounds like something is stalk somewhere, the makes a noise but can't seem to turnover.

Check all ground cables, all fine and good. I'll try push start it if not, then I'll look for a bare engine and use my ancillaries.

As Kevin states, you should turn her over by hand. Perhaps pull the plugs to make this easier. Any internal issue should reveal itself, and if its "stuck", youll find that too !

Hi all, thanks for your contributions, i can confidently say the problem was the stationary gear bearing, worn out to a state that popped and got stuck in. The cat was in good working condition, sold it for a fortune, bought a fairly used engine 47k miles and a decat, car is running fine, zazazoom!!!
