engine died on cold start

Hello,

I have an rx-8 with 130.000km (80.000 miles), just a year ago I went through a rebuild, with an experienced person from Italy.
In the process of rebuild I changed all ignition, all NGK, battery too, and fuel pump was replaced with dealership recall.
Before the rebuild I also took off the CAT, replaced my radiator and thermostat (because of overheating).

With the rebuild he reused old Irons and Rotors since for him they were still in good conditions, he bought the rebuild kit from Atkins, all mazda stock apart from apex seals, he choose the Atkins one.
The car after rebuild would have some difficulty starting cold, more than hot. Later on even hot starts got a little worse... the starter hasn't been changed.

The compression numbers after rebuild were:
Front rotor kPa 736, 835, 719 in 250rpm
Rear rotor kPa 777, 719, 761 in 250rpm

It's been one year after rebuild or 10.000km so I was going to go back to him in this week for the normal change of oil and to see what was the problem with starting cold/hot, to change the starter, and also to do another compression test (since i don't have the tester).

This morning I though of starting it and going a bit around so as to not have her all week not used in the garage, I added a little oil, since there wasn't much, like I always do, and went to start her, strange enough she started really fast, faster than ever, and then went to around 2500 rpm and then even less and after 2 min just died, I tried to give some gas but it didn't budge, nothing helped....

Here's a link to the video:

Given the unresponsiveness to throttle input...check that your throttle connector is securely seated.

No worries. It's this connector - see below circled in red.

I would suggest you read thru the newbie threads, and familiarize yourself w/ the "search" function and filtering. There is an enormous reservoir of information on this forum regarding our "8"s at your fingertips ...if you search it out.

All the best

yeah, i have been getting most of information here, but still only know so little (also different language).. thanks for the photo.

BTW i forgot to mention that when i tried to give gas i did it in neutral but nothing, i never put it in gear... would it have saved the car, if i put her in gear? Considering that now it's flooded... or it wouldn't have mattered if in gear or in neutral.

Also I looked with OBD and it didn't give me any codes.

So I checked it, and it was ok, not loose or anything.

In the meantime I tried to deflood the car (looking at various tips on the forum), without much success.

So i started to dig inside the car, I'm not a mechanic, still somehow I got to the Coils and found out that my old mechanic rather than buying the NGK coils, bought ERA coils... still charged the price of NGK (more)... anyway I still have my old coils, original Mazda, even tho not in the best of shape (here's a photo), should I put them back ?

old mazda coils

Tomorrow I will check the spark plugs, wires seemed ok.

Also I wanted to know if ERA coils are ok as coils or not, I wonder if you know something, thank you.
