Hii guyz I have a question ,why does everytime im in the highway and im going like 60 mph , and I have it in 6 gear , the engine light comes on ???

 

considering there are hundreds of malfunction codes, it could be anything. It would be wise for you to go to your local autoparts store and get the code read, and then come back and ask your question.

Your question is as broad as me asking "why do i cough between 5:10pm and 5:15pm on tuesdays

 

I did , and the computer said it was the catalyst . . . but I believe my car has a resonated pipe ??. . . (I dont kno much about this car yet ,I recently bought it of a rx8 club member )..so that being the problem how can I stop the light from coming on ?do I have to change it back?

 

Get the catalytic converter fixed.

 

Your catalytic converter may also be guttted. I purchased my car used in November and there was no Check Engine Light until mid-march. I've read around the forums that it's been noted that the cel not appear on installation, but a few miles/kms afterwards.

 

Lesson 1 on asking trouble shooting questions- be detailed. You think that having the code read before hand, informing you that the cat may be an issue could be important to your question?

Lesson 2- there is a search feature that has the answers to many questions you, and other members in the past 8+ years the club has been going, have regarding issues.

Lesson 3- When a light is blinking in your car, it is usually an indication of something wrong. Try to avoid driving under those conditions, as much as possible (at least until you have the code read and know the potential diagnosis).

 

But I dont have a catalyc converter , I have a resonated pipe .. excuse my spelling..lol

And yes, you could get a CEL for having a resonated pipe and not a cat, since the ECU sees that your cat isn't working correctly (because it isn't there) and is throwing an error code. Everything is working as intended.....

I see two problems with leaving things as they are. The first is that if you have another problem the triggers a CEL, you won't know about it because you are ignoring the light that is already there. The other is that you live in NY, and the car won't pass emissions inspection with the CEL on or if the OBDII monitors have not run through their cycle and turned off. And, there's a third now that I think about it, you're making the air dirtier then it has to be.
