Engine Overheating! Help!

Engine Overheating! Help!
I'm from Maldives and I need some help with my ride, there arent any good mechanics around the whole country so I am very hopeless...
Here is what happened, I lend my beauty (Mazda RX8 2004 AT Green) to a friend who didn't know the car could also be driven in Manual mode, he drove it to a long distance on 1st gear and the engine got overheated and without even asking anyone this guy put water into Coolant Reservoir it so that was the end of story for my engine...
I have bought a used engine and after installation we went for a test ride but the temperature keeps going up not even going to a km of space, the mechanic who installed the engine asked to change the Coolant Reservoir and I have done so, but still the overheating is there, after reading a lot of threads on this forum I have also checked the radiator by keeping the engine running and touching all over it, all the spots seems to be getting hot quite fast, so i assume there isnt any clog? What might be the problem? Any help would be very much appreciated. The radiator is custom made from Sri Lanka as I couldn't get a stock one or applicable one from any place nearby.

How could your friend not know that something is wrong when he drives in first only and has the rpms pegged all the way up?
Sorry I dont have any idea what you need to check, but I'm sure someone else will chime in.
When I read that all I could think about was dogma..

I would first check to see if your fans are coming on. The cooling system also needs to be free of air pockets that develop when filling. I would expect any good shop to know this though. I can't speak for the level of effectiveness the Sri Lanka built radiator.
I hope you have not damaged the second engine but if it is ruined with water seal issues I do have an inexpensive rebuilt automatic engine in stock ready to ship and I've sent them to as far as Italy and Pakistan in the past.
Let me know if I may help.
Paul.

Thanks Paul for your help, the fans are coming on for sure and after driving for a while the fan stays on as well until the engine cools off, as now the temperature keeps going up Im using water instead of coolant as it keeps overheating and water is coming out of the overflow pipe, using coolant at the time being will be a nightmare now due to the price. However I have noticed some powder like rust in the reservoir, Im assuming that the radiator is not working properly? I believe if any water seals are broken the water goes and mixes with engine oil ? I have checked this as well and there is no sign of water in it.
Its very unfortunate that there are no shops around Maldives to buy any parts so the closest is Malaysia I think for stock parts.

Water can also leak into the rotor chamber. I had this problem once. For me, it only caused a few minutes of missfires in the morning until the coolant had been cleared. Pull the plugs and see if they are water wet in the morning, before you start your car. Also you may need to check the thermostat and see if that is opening up and letting water pass.
