Engine/Tranny problems.
ok so i havent been on this forum for a while and i usually post my problems on here but i havent in a while although i did run across many problems with my car and i just gave up caring.
so.... i've had this problem for quite some time now... when i accelerate fairly quickly my tranny starts to make some crazy grinding noise (above 4k rpm) as if there's a bolt inside it until i switch gears. this can happen 1st-3rd gear. Dunno what the problem is. i have 04 automatic and it was an april model bought in june.
now 2nd problem... i feel some serious power loss and the emmision recall was done the day i got my letter. the dealership told me straight up that my car is the first time they performed the recall on the rx8 and it took them 2-3 days i forgot how long, its been a while. This sucks cause this is the reason why i have to rev up to 4-5krpm to actually keep up with cars on the highway from a dead stop and i usually hear that grinding noise in tranny. and on my way to school from work today my car stalled. cranked 5 times to get it started on the highway (was stuck in middle of traffic, i felt soo shitty). Oh yea my car shakes vigouriosly when i slowly let go of the brakes but its fine when i start to accelerate. actually... it shakes when i let off the brakes when it cruises. that could be the engine mount not sure tho.
so... i called mazda up to see if they can perform a 2nd recall incase the first dealership missed something. the guy straight up said No. no way around it. once its done, its done. and i was like... dood my car is seriosly really slow and i would know if it was this slow when i first got the car. so he told me to bring it to the dealership so they can charge me X amt to diagnose it.
if anyone has a 04 auto rx8 i'd like u to test drive my car and compare cause i KNOW it wasnt this bad when i frst got my car. i have 58xxx miles on it.
i'm gonna bring it to the dealership 2morrow so.... hopefully they do SOMETHING and not charge me for a rebuilt tranny or engine cause that would just suck.
any suggestions on this matter would be awesome. Oh yea, they replaced my tranny like a year or 2 ago i forget when. (oh yea i dont abuse my car, i only floor it like once in a blue moon or when someone bothers me)

If you can reproduce the noise, get a service tech to sit with you in the car and listen to the noise. That will force them to to actually do something about it as they cannot say "We didn't hear anything"
Hope you're under warranty, sounds like its time for a new tranny.
PS: have you checked all your fluids?

70,xxx miles on my clock. Had the car since 6,000 miles and 2004, and its getting a new tranny as we speak. My 8 has actually never given me mechanical/tranny issues until now - no check engine light no nothing that wasn't iatrogenic (lol bad gas etc.) Luckily I have an extended warranty that is covering the repair--because if it didnt I would have gotten out of the car and into a used 6spd RX8, used 350Z, used G35 coupe, or used GTO. My car exhibited the same sound you speak of. The auto trannies are weak in these cars.
Mine will be ready sometime between now and friday - until then I'm in the best rental I've ever had... '08 Cadillac CTS.

Beg to differ with you on the "week" a/t. They in fact are very substantial, but being a mechanical item, is subject to normal mechanical problems. The things that they are susceptible to is "burned" a/t fluid and over heating. I will not even try to guess what is happening to Like Whoa or what happened to yours (DreRX8) but my guess would be that you did not add an external trans cooler and most likely over heated it in traffic or did not change burned a/t fluid. I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm in error.

I had bad plugs on my past cars (97 chevy corsica and 01 Shitsubishi Eclipse) and this was the sorce of my problem. I think my plugs are bad on my 8. After I drive around town for some time I will experience some shakeing right before I come to a stop or when I let of the brake and go to the gas. Once on the gas its gone. I'll be changing the spark plugs and wires on the 8 soon. Its about that time and I drive a lot so thats a + to change them before there due, just like the oil.

I have an external tranny cooler to install--I'm sure that you are probably right that heat destroyed the tranny, the fluids were changed regularly though--but I maintain that a tranny should not be going out heat or no heat this soon. Being a dental student I have no intentions of getting rid of my car in the foreseeable future--so the tranny cooler is going on with this replacement tranny. Next will be 2nd oil cooler--I'd like to sc it once I'm out of school.

We dont know if his AT is out or not. Till he comes back and states that the repair bill is going for a new AT. I dont know of any AT 8 that has had there AT replaced. Correct me if I'm wrong.

ok so... dealership confirmed all my problems that i stated in the first post. they are waiting to get approved for a new engine. unfortunately i have to replace my engine mounts... wouldnt u think it'd still be covered under warranty =/. i guess not cause it's not part of the extended warranty. they said the grinding noise came from the engine um... i dunno how. but i guess they know what they're talking about.
