Engine will not turn over / Crank

I'm not finding any thing in my search. I may not know how to word what I am looking for.

I have a 05 GT Manuel Trans, with just under 40K miles. I have put plugs, wires and coils in about 4k miles ago (about a year). I have been having issues with long crank and low power again. A couple days ago I started the car in the morning, and drove my kid to day care (about 3 miles, the car gets fully warm.). When I came back out the engine would not turn over at all. It tries, just nothing happens.

I though maybe my battery didn't have enough cranking amps, so I tried jumping the car. Still nothing even with the other battery attached and their car running.

We pushed the car to another location, and I tried turning the motor with a breaker bar on the eccentric shaft. I tried turning the motor (cloak wise) and it did not budge. My little 12a I could turn by hand (Never tried the 8). If I try and turn the alternator it will turn but the belt will not.

Any quick ideas before I drop it off at Mazda?

Before trying a compression test, remove all 4 spark plugs, and see if you can then turn the engine by hand.

If you still can't, something broke inside, and your engine is trash.

BC.

Well thanks for your input. I think i'm going to just let them run the tests they want and see what they have to say. Just wanted to make sure i didn't miss something simple.... just not my week. 3 dead cars...

If the transmission is in neutral, you should easily be able to rotate the engine with a breaker bar on the main pulley bolt (19mm). If it doesn't move at all, it rare, and an issue of carbon lock or bearing seizure. If it moves some, but hits hard limits, then something is likely jammed in your flywheel. (Happened to me on a clutch disk failure).

Not rotating at all is more likely just that the transmission is in gear and the ebrake on

+1 on the Engine is Thrashed... I too have had clutch friction discs' springs break off (in a different motor and tranny than the RX8) and rattle off and engage the clutch in a neutral matter but not fully jam the flywheel / rotation of the motor so it must be inside the motor itself... Any other opinions ?

I don't know I must be a moron... or they fixed the wrong car...

I have not picked it up yet, but they wanted to change out the battery... It would have cost me more to go get a new battery and replace it myself. (The dealer is just so far away, would have killed me in gas.) So I let them do it. They say it starts up but wont idle. I have two bad coils (3 and 4) and 4 bad plugs.

I just don't understand how I trouble shot it wrong. I did try to start it while I was there and it would not turn. I tried to start it while I was jumping it. When I was doing the test with the breaker bar it was not in gear, but I didn't check. I don't leave my car in gear. Ever. My first Gen does not check to make sure you are not in gear. I was broke of that habit a long time ago.

Now I will add when I was trying to start the car before I jumped it, we put a volt meter on the battery, and with the starter engaged it dropped to 5V's. (12 something when not in use.)

I don't know... I'm kind of happy, I will get my 8 back. I just feel stupid. I have ordered the BHR Ignition System with plugs (Had my eye on them awhile now.). So I can at least fix this issue. I am going to pick the car and swap the good the coils over to my Leading plugs and drive it home, then wait for the kit to come in.

I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I do enjoy working on my cars. I don't know how I messed this up, but if anyone does I'm all ears. 320 + plus tax is not too expensive of a lesson... I guess.

Well it is not coils, spark plugs, or the cat. They rip off a Apex seal on the rear rotor. I just have one pulse.

They didn't even get the battery change right. The Negative terminal does not even mount and they mangled the connector. I'm gana call and demand my money back. For everything. Why would you tell me i have a bad coils when it will not idle, has no power, and SOUNDS LINE A LAWN MOWER!

I am so mad. I will not be taking my car back to them. Going to drag the car to a different dealer... Twice as far away.

Two questions:

I installed my BHR Coils can I leave those on when I take it in again for the warrenty repair?

Can I drive the car 90 miles to the next shop, or do i have to tow it? I already had to drive the car 45 miles to get it home. (Because they diagnosed it wrong.)

On a side note I pulled the cat, and it looks like it is brand new! It has 42k mile on it.

The same issue is happening to my car when ileft it at Neptune speed onfriday. My car just won't turn over. They guy at the dealership thinks that it is a compression issue and that since my car is under warranty that I can just get an engine swap. However I will not know until Monday so I am just crossing my fingers that it is compression so I do not have to pay anything.

Butto answer one of your questions of they end up doing an engine swap they will replace your coils with new ones and throw yours away do I suggest you take them off. Just from what the guy told me at the dealership I took my car too.

Just so you know, even though im not sure if you care. I got approved today for them to put a new engine in and also my cat was completely melted so they had me under warranty for that as well. They said that the compression in the engine was pretty low, even though i had the test done when i bought the car 8 months ago and it was great. They made me pay for new ignition coils but I want to see if i can order the BHR and if they will install it for me. Lastly im putting in a new clutch since they will not have to charge me the labor so its going to total cost a little over a grand.
