Question Extremely Light Steering Feel, Powersteering Works Fine

So lately I've been having an annoying problem with my powersteering. The powersteering works fine, light never illuminates or PS goes out, but the feel is incredibly light, sort of like the EPS is overboosting the feel. I replaced inner and outer tie rods a few weeks ago and the feel got heavy again, but for the last week it has gone back to before and is once again incredibly light. I read in the PS failure thread about the harness everyone replaces, which I replaced about 1.5 years ago, and it sounded like one guy said he had light steering as well until he replaced the harness. I cleaned the connectors on my harness, but the symptoms are still the same, so I'm not sure if replacing the harness will for sure fix my problem or not. Any ideas? It's incredibly annoying when my mom's SUV has about the same feel as my car atm. Lol

I would think a power steering problem would be more likely to result in heavy steering...

Anyway, I thought the steering was a bit light on my car from new. I wanted more self-centering for high speed cruising, which most of my previous cars had. So, when I bought new tires, I found the best alignment shop in the area and had them do a custom alignment, which included dialing-in more caster to the front steering geometry. That did it. The steering has a nice weight to it now, more self centering, and more stable on the highway.

If it's changing the weight without any hardware/alignment/suspension changing, then it has to be an electrical issue.

Yeah, I clearly remember when I had my EPS problem two years ago, it was heavier turning right than to turn left even if the steering were jerking/pulling to the right before I fixed the EPS.

Yeah, that's true, but I'm already running 6.8 degrees of caster, so that's not my problem.

I believe I'm now having this exact problem, but it isn't greatly pronounced like most experienced in the past. About a month ago I ended up hardwiring my power steering harness and all my issues finally vanished. Steering felt like new and finally gave me that precise and confidence inspring feedback I had been missing for quite some time. Well this within the last few days, I've noticed that somehow disappear slightly. My only guess is that my issue could be related to my soldering as I no longer have connectors. I find it odd that it took at least a month for this to occur. It sounds like its a loose connection in the harness, so maybe one of my solder joints weakened? I'll probably get a chance to check this out over the weekend, but if anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them to fix this once and for all.

It should be heat slowly degrading the connection. I'd pull it apart and re-do it, and make sure that you shield the connection as much as possible.
