2004 Rx8 with factory bose single disc player.

So my cd player is skipping and not working very well, and I thought since it was factory bose single disc I could change it for the six disc changer. I called 1 dealership for answers and nobody seems to know if I can change from single to 6 disc. He did say that the part number for the face plate was the same and the radio part and cd player are actually sold separate so I can order either one. I called 2nd dealership and he said the face plate was different and the 6 disc was a dealer installed option for the car in 04. So that being said it should work because the car came with single disc and dealers were putting the 6 disc in. The problem is the stereo parts are non returnable so if it doesn't work im out $500. Also If you look at the front of the factory bose single disc it has a load button Disc change button and all the functions for the 6 disc.

Thats all the info Ive gathered and I have researched the forum.

Bottom line the questions are Can I change from single disc bose factory to 6 disc bose factory. And are the face plates the same or different, (face plate not a huge deal because the part is cheap enough I could eat that if I actually didnt need it but a real awnser would be nice.

If anyone has any experience with this please help. I dont want to go aftermarket and I know that the factory changer is probably gonna break after awhile. So please no smart comments or Flamming. Only answers pertaining to the issue please. (Once I get this figured out I will be doing a DIY on the swap) I doubt anyone will care though. I glad to get all that out.

man you called the wrong dealership! if they looked in the accessory catalog, they list the parts you need to buy. you need the 6 disc changer unit, and there is a little faceplate thing (yours says CD player, the 6 disc one says 6 CD), actually you don't need the faceplate, its just cosmetic.

the 6 disc changer is GJ6D-79-EGX the trim panel is F153-79-BGX.

 

Thanks for the part number. I dont see that mine says cd player anywhere but if just a cosmetic thing then I dont care. I called two wrong dealerships. Could you confirm the part number for the single cd TC879EG0 or atleast thats what the parts guy told me. I didnt get the number for the 6 disc so thanks again. And whats your opinion on swaping for the 6 disc. do you think it will work.
