Failed TCC solenoid : code P0740

Check engine light came on and scan indicates a TCC solenoid valve malfuncion. I understand this locks up the torque converter for betterfueleconomy and lower trans temp. Does anyone know exactly where this is located and how easy/ difficult it is to replace. I've a 2004 RX8. Thanks.

I've never had to replace one, but this is from the service manual:
Failed TCC solenoid : code P0740-tcc.jpg
I also color-coded the solenoids in the pic to reflect the harness color for that solenoid.
Good luck.

Thanks Jon316G, I was able to find the RX8 trans manual online. I'm unable to post the link for others as there's some source error in the link. I appreciate your help.

Were you ever able to fix this issue? I am having the same problem. After changing the solenoid the CEL came back on reading the same code (p0740). I took it to the shop thinking it was a wiring or TCM problem for them to tell me the Torque converter itself is slipping under load, and needs to be replaced along with the rest of the trans.

D Shah95, it turns out the 1st gear clutch in the trans was worn out and the trans had to be rebuilt. The torque converter was fine but since the clutch was slipping it threw the code because the computer thought the converter wasn't locking up properly. Have a transmission shop check out your trans to isolate the problem. My trans shop was able to diagnose the specific issue just by plugging in his diagnostic computer and taking the car for a test drive. The results showed the converter was in fact locking up properly.
The torque converter was replaced along with the trans rebuild. The total cost was around $3,000.00 and it has a 2 year warranty. Good luck!!

AMCsellout, I took it to a transmission shop and they told me that it was slipping under load. The CEL came back on while merging on the highway in 4th gear going about 60mph. I am not sure if it is a true electrical issue, as the code suggests, or a problem that calls for a full rebuild. When looking online the main causes were a bad solenoid, wiring issue or an issue with the TCM. My main concern is it being an electrical issue and it coming back if i swap the tranny for a used one.
