Few Questions
I have a AT 2004 GT. I have noticed that when the Gears shift from 1st to 2nd higher then 4k rpm, there is a kick. All other gears are fine at high and low rpms. Is this normal? If not, any insight would be appreciated. Also, in 3rd gear at 3k-4k rpm, if I floor it or if I give it half throttle, it accelorates at the same speed. Is that normal? I bought the car used about 6 months ago. It now has about 46500 miles on it. I get an oil change every three months. I have replaced the sparkplugs and wires. The only "mod" is a CAI so far. In the spring I will be replacing the ignition coils and flushing the coolant. Any thought?
I appreciate any help.

What type of CAI do you have and have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor?
Check inside the intake tube (before the throttle body) and see if any oil got inside from the breather tube.

I cleaned the MAF and throttle body before installing my short ram CAI. There was oil buildupin the black rubber from the old assembly and a little on the throttle body. No longer have the rubber and i cleaned everything I could reach without removing the throttle body. Maybe when its nicer out I will remove the throttle body and give it another quick clean.

I have a special weapon-r intake. I know its not a good one but I didnt get it for HP, I got it for better fuel economy(which I am getting).

It's funny how when a new RX8 owner asks a question, ignorant people come in and expect everyone to know everything. If I knew this was normal/not normal, I would not have asked. I am simply asking if this is normal for the RX8 tranny. I think we found candidate for the Douchebag of the Year award. You can bash me about the intake, idc since I am getting better fuel economy(the reason I bought it). After bashing, if you answer a simple question you dont look so much like an ignorant *****. Just my opinion.

haha - wow....it's probably your ports trying to open up at 4k.
That's like feathering the gas up to 6k then shifting....you're gonna feel a helluva kick at that point...
btw - don't take my post seriously - i'm just here for the freebie

Actually, I went on lunch and on the way back, I was in first reved it up to 5.5k and shifted to 2nd and there wasn't a lot of kick. There is more kick between the 3-5k range. Strange.

I don't know if you're still watching this thread... but the kick is your secondary ports opening at 4k rpm so the engine can breathe more freely giving you more hp... it's completely normal.
@nycgps
don't be a douche, everybody has to start somewhere, and the only way to learn is by asking questions... you didn't always know about rotaries, you had to learn it, that would have been a lot harder for you if every time you asked a question people treated you like you were stupid... this forum isn't about being an egotistical know-it-all, it's about pride of ownership and knowledge sharing.
