Fuel Pump Malfunctioning?

Fuel Pump Malfunctioning?
I think my fuel pumps going. Why.. Because when in hit the gas violently it bogs down like theres no power and then after a second it gets the power back and somtimes die back down a little after that. I think its not getting fuel. No the clutch isnt slipping. And the car will rev all the way to the limiter therefore it cant be that intake valve in the manifold that gets stuck. Any thoughts?

The fuel pump usually fails after it gets too warm. Fill the tank with fresh cool gas and see if the problem goes away. It should also work better in the morning than in the afternoon heat. If there is no difference, you may check the filter sock on the pump and see if it is clogged with sediment.
The problem could also be on the other end too. The cat may be getting clogged. Just not enough to throw a MIL yet.
Check the ECU for any engine codes.

No check engine light? No flashing check engine light? I had the same situation years ago and it was my coils. I replaced the coils and the car ran fine for a couple months until the engine failed due to low compression.

How many miles on the coils & plugs? Cool gas doesn't help much once the pump has already over heated.
If it does this while the car is still cool or still warming up I would replace the coils, plugs, and possibly the wires first. If it only does it after she's been running a while or hot then the fuel pump is more likely to be the problem. FWIW, I'm on my 3rd fuel pump with 79k miles and a bad fuel pump won't throw a CEL.

Hmm interesting. Well the car has 39000 or so and i have the bhr ignition so the coils wire and plugs are fine (they were changed 2 months ago). When your pump went, what did u feel exactly while driving?

I was on I-75 in Florida when I knew mine was going bad. The car would start to stall out whenever I tried to put the slightest load on the engine. Just trying to gently accelerate or the slight incline of a roadway bridge or small hill would cause it to stall.

Mazda replaced mine at 65,000 the problem lasted two months before total death. the problems that you are having did not start until one week before total crap out. One thing I did notice over the two months was when going hard into the RPM's I would get a strange sound coming from the motor almost like a loud vibration turns out it was the motor running lean from the pump starting to give

Both of mine went out while highway driving on the interstate. The symptoms began as acceleration problems. I would give her some gas and she would hesitate and shake a little while she accelerated. At first I thought I had bad gas. After it did that for about 15-20 miles the car would suddenly shutdown. Once I let it cool for 15-20 minutes I could start her back up and drive for another 10-20 miles before it would shutdown again.
Be careful if this is happening to you. The tech told me running lean all of a sudden because the fuel pump is struggling can do damage to the engine.

You still haven't answered if it only does this after she's warmed up.

Fortunately BHR has a turn-key solution for this one as well:

EdwardLenczowski,
Did you ever resolve this issue? I am having the same issue, it seems. My car jerks/hesitation of the acceleration when I suddenly presses the gas pedal. When I presses the pedal slowly, it does not happen, only on sudden acceleration. It happens whether warmed up or not.
Regards,

I have a 2004, 6sp RX8 with 78,000 miles. Car bogs slightly at 4 to 5K rpms between shifts. Car feels like it has less power up to 8K. Replaced plugs and found one with rust on the tip. Cleaned wire, but thinking now a new set is in order. Only replace one coil since the car was new. All seem to be firing consisently.
I notice the car revs fine when parked. No hesitation from 2 to 8K rpms. Smooth acceleration. The problem only occurs when on the road.
Any suggestions? Replace wires, coils, fuel pump, get checked out a Mazda??? All the above? =)
