Gear Grind shifting from neutral

Today I noticed my 6th gear was grinding when I was crusing around 62mph and I was in neutral because traffic was up ahead. So I pushed clutch all the way down and then tried to go to the right a bit as I normally do to shift to 6th gear, and when I do that, it grinds a small amount. It sounds pretty nasty too but doesn't grind too long. I tried replicating the issue many times shifting out of gear while on the highway and back into 6th and this happened about 3-4 times. It is a 2009 Rx8 with 17,000 miles on it. I bought it November 2010. Would the dealership cover anything?

Other times it goes smoothly into 6th gear from 5th or any other gear, Just not sure maybe I shouldnt be going 60mph and in neutral then to 6th?

Check your clutch pedal welds or bring it to the dealer, the S2 has a recall or TSB on transmission but that was 5th gear i think.

I noticed that before, it was easier to go into 6th from nuetral if the car was already moving at high speed. Now, it seems like you can't go all the way to the right with the stick and then push down. Its almost as if you are going too far past 6th and touching the side, which is causing the grind. If done slowly, it will not grind. I imagine it will be a very weird situation for the dealer to replicate.

You can try changing fluids first, tranny oil and some new cluth/brake fluid. It sounds like your car is still under warranty so I would just bring it to the dealer and show it to them what you just describe.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will take off work and go to the dealership. What a pain really. Do you know normally how long it takes to look at? I always go through Mazda for my Oil changes and they seem to take forever. I was also thinking of trading the RX8 in for a mazda 6, a 2011 model. With these gas prices, I'm burning through $100 bucks a week just to put premium fuel in it.
