Maybe it's a bad disc, here's a link to the manual: http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/2003mazdarx8/
If I remember correctly, the section you need is in the "Entertainment" sub section of the "Bodies & Accessories" section.

Where are you located? Maybe someone local to you can loan you a disc to try in your system to verify a bad disc. You can buy a disc from Navteq but you are looking at $199.00 for it. As far as downloading one goes, you will have to search through the threads.

I've successfully copied the disc. You'll have to luck out with the right recordable media, hardware and software. I tried a few newer drives and they all failed the recording. (I think it's to do with the firmware trying to do error correction when you actually want the error to be written to disk).
Before buying a new drive, try cleaning the lens with those CD's that have the brush on them. The repair should be pretty easy if something is physically broken. (Given you can take it apart and inspect the cogs/motors).
If the DVD is scratched you can try buffing it with car wax.
Also if you've improperly burned the disc (or have it upside down), it'll get the same error. Label up.
