Ok, so I was going back over my checklist to see how I could have missed this gasket. It just happened to be the only part that I didn't check. Feel free to slap me...really. I'm praying this is the end of the oil problem. Lets hope I can find the boost problem.

Its at a shop right now. Was supposed to pick up Sat, but the mechanic was too busy. If everything goes right, I'll get it back early next week, but thats a big IF.

Picked up the car today. Didn't really get a chance to step on it, as I want to play around with the boost controller first. I don't want to be added to that blown engine list. I will hopefully do that in the next day or so. From the little I did get into boost, there was a big difference. Its weird to say that my car actually has torque now! I will keep everyone posted on the results.

So what was the boost problem fix?

The mechanic is Rick, the owner of the turbo'd auto 8. He said that he had that problem with his car as well, and that the car needed to be under load for it to boost. Sitting with it in neutral at idle will just cause the car to stall out. I had never heard of that since I have a video of an 8 at idle, revving and hitting boost, and have also seen it in person twice. Now to figure out how to set up the Profec B, boost controller. I only want to run 6psi until I get the car tuned, then I want to push it to 9-10psi.

I didn't know you were at idle, I thought you were under load. So he didn't do anything but drive it?
Anyways, mine will boost in neutral without dying. Sounds like the BOV setting.

When you take it to the shop, have them tune for 6psi and then tell them to up the boost and tune for 9-10psi. I'm still waiting for dyno time from my shop, they're unbelievably busy.

Wait a minute - you were telling us that you couldn't get full boost AT IDLE!?!

OMG.

Never got into boost, let alone full boost. I believe anytime he would rev (while idling) and about to go into boost.... it would die.
Well, at least your finally driving it and noticing the difference.

But he was trying to verify boost in neutral?
That is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

Do a search! The question of "why don't I see boost when I rev it" has been asked here before.
More important, it should be obvious why that wouldn't work.

I did not expect to see full boost at idle, but for it to completely cut off as it got close to boost was weird. I did try it again yesterday, and it did not cut off like it did before. But yes, I am COMPLETELY new at this, so I don't know much about turbo'd cars. I have been reading up, and and yes I did search, but like I said, I've seen two cars do this at idle, and also have one on vid doing it, so I figured since I couldn't do it, something was wrong.

Without the boost controller, you will be limited to what the wastegate actuator is pre-set for. Greddy set this for around 6-7psi. The boost controller can only increase this. It does so by diverting some of the boost signal that goes to the actuator. When you reach the boost setpoint in the boost controller, the valve sends all the signal to the actuator to open the wastegate. You can't go lower than the setpoint of the actuator, only higher.

Bottom line: you can drive the car without the boost controller and be limited to 6psi. You don't have to worry about setting up the boost controller during your trial period.

This is rich, but I tried doing a search and couldn't find the answer. And me, Mr. Deductive Logic, can't figure out why it wouldn't work. Care to enlighten me?

What causes the turbo to spin? Exhaust.
What causes exhaust? Combustion.
How much combustion is needed on an unloaded motor compared to a loaded motor? Not much.
How much exhaust will be created by not much combustion? Not much.
How much spin can we expect from the turbo with not much exhaust? Not much.

For every pound of boost you put into the motor you need several more in the exhaust manifold. The engine was designed to flow maximum air at maximum torque. If you don't ask for much torque (ie - don't load the engine), it won't flow much air and there won't be much pressure in the exhaust manifold.
This lack of pressure will lead to the turbo barely spinning and no reciprocal intake manifold pressure.

WOOHOO! I nearly fell out of my chair on that one! Haha

Not to mention, some people have been turbo'd for a year. There are no off-the-shelf superchargers, at least none I know about. Only a few prototypes. If you're not turbo'd, you're still slow.
