For the guys who have blew an engine
#77
ok, update, i bite the bullet and took it into the mazda dealership, holiday mazda in jacksonville, a great bunch of guys, actually was a pleasure.
Anyways did a compression check:
Results are:
Rotor One: 86, 83, 83
Rotor Two: 76, 79, 74
Low compression but here is the catch, i drove 30 miles to the dealership, used over a quarter of a tank of gas, way rich. So the master mazda tech theorized that some of my low compression may be from running so rich, like super pig hog rich, that it is washing the oil away thus low compression.
He did not think that the hunting idle was a result of this so he started troubleshooting. What he found was that the values on the ap1, ap2, tp1, tp2 were all different and should have been the same, thus a throttle body problem.
Makes sense to me and more importantly to him, the master tech.
So the part is ordered, should be here in a couple of days and we will see if that corrects the problem.
Recommadation on the compression is correct the throttle plate, make sure its not running pig hog rich (the interceptor that is soon to be on its way), and see what compression is then. If its still bad, not sure if I will just drive it or go ahead with the replacement, depends on how it drives.
But at least finally some news and a solution!
thanks everyone for your help and after a couple of days we can chalk this one up for knowledge if anyone has this similar problem.

Well I hope your technician is right but he may not be.In fact ap1,ap2,tp1,tp2 are supposed to be all different. The test procedure for the sensors is given in in the Manual,pp01-40-31 and 01-40-32.The important thing is that the measured values at closed and wide open positions match the values given in the Manual.

whoa, i hope so, they watch the throttle plate while one press the accelator and it did not move at all until half of the accelator was down, then it went very wide.
what section of the manual is that in, i would like to take a look too.

oh sorry did not notice that you had the page numbers, i will check it out, but i actually have a chirping noise coming from the throttle body too, the iac, so hopefully this is the solution, if not these guys will find it i am sure

well call me a dummy or we are looking at different workshop manuals, section 1 is info, I cant find it, have to look tomorrow when its not so late.
I am still thinking that this makes sense though, there is a stepper motor in there, this turbo spools way faster than the greddy, so i spooled fast, messed the stepper up then or maybe when I let off real quick when I realize what I did the bov did not catch it quick enough and kick the stepper motor, dunno, a theory, can't wait to find out for sure

Well I have no reason to call you any abusive epithet! My manual is indexed as follows:
General Information--sect 00
Engine------------------ sect01
Suspension------------ sect02 and so on.
Also you should be aware there is no IAC valve on the RX-8 throttlebody. It is possible that there is a problem with the stepping motor.

went to mazda, they replaced the throttle body in all of about ten minutes, cranked the 8 and low and behold an idle at approx 750 rpm.
Problem fixed, old throttle plate itself was bent!
Thanks for all the help guys!

basically my theory is that the turbo spools so fast and where my boost controller was not working right at the time, i pressed the gas way too hard, turbo took engine from vacuum to 8.5 almost instantly thus bent the throttle plate. I no have it set for low boost cause i am waiting to get the int x tuned, but i will program the boost controller to not let the boost come on so quick. this turbo is awesome actually! She will slamm you in the seat!
waiting to hear from scott at mazsport i may try to go down there and get in dyno tuned so i should have some hp numbers then, it was designed to give the 8 as much as 350 whp if there was enough fuel so we will see
