Help! Keep blowing my alternator belt

This sounds like a job for Capt. Obvious
Whatever that loose wiring connector is for became caught in the belt/pulley and likely caused the break, that's why the connector is disconnected, broken, and appears to have some of the wires pulled out from it

LOL...but wouldn't you think when the belt snapped off it would have ripped it out and the wire out?!

The update I have gotten from Mazda thus far...if you see in my first pic you can kinda see to the right my intake and that tub is the excess oil drainage into the intake. It is VERY loose and there was a zip tie (meaning to buy a freakin clamp) on it, that is not there. Tech said found some oil over my coils so thinks oil came out and hit the belt which caused it to snap. URG!
The alternator pulley has a little rough spot on it as well, which is going to be replaced with a used smoother one.
Still waiting...should have it back tonight.

If all things above have been covered. I'd suggest about the only things left 1. I assume there is no problem maintaining tension on the belt or 2. verify all pulleys lineup is a single plane, no twist or possible rubs against the side of the pulleys. 3. just thought on one more , double check for any sharp edges on any of the pulleys.
Sorry to see you on the side of the track, glad it was just coolant.

That's not the problem....it's the oil leak that was blowing my belt. I updated the thread to avoid making a new one about what the hell might be leaking to spew all over my engine bay, when racing or high rpms it seems. I can't see where it is coming from.
#34
Yeah.....hopefully we all know that now.
Gonna be hard to figure out where the leak is coming from, but try to clean it up and then see if you can tell where it could be getting on the belt from. I know that's a no-brainer, but can't think of much else at this time.

I recently looked at a local's 8 who had oil everywhere right after an autocross event.
We found that the copper gasket on the OMP was slightly leaking.
But he also found that oil was leaking from the front oil seal (behind the e-shaft pulley).
Since the engine is still under warranty, he was able to have the seal replaced by the dealer.
We both were hoping on a new engine, but the Mazda warranty people told the dealer to just replace the damaged seal.
Not sure if this is related to your problem, but gives you a couple options to consider.
Clean the oil up, start the car, and start looking for leaks.

^thx...that's what I have read so far as it might be. I don't know where either of those are tho. Do you know of a diagram I could look at?
As for the warranty, was that covered under the 100,000mil or 160,000km engine warranty?

The left arrow shows where the OMP copper gasket is.
Where the clear lines go into the fitting, the gasket seals those fittings to the OMP.
The right arrow is the e-shaft pulley and behind it is where the dealer had to replace an oil seal.
Your best bet is to clean up all the oil and run the car.
See if you can tell where your leak is coming from.

Is there anything that you know of about replacing these? I haven't come across anything yet..looking all day bah. Oh and what they actually look like? lol.
What do you recommend to clean it up with?
Updated first post with new pics, but here they are again.

We removed OMP gasket and cleaned it up. Dealer didn't have them in sock so we reused it.
After the oil was cleaned-up and he ran the car again, that's when he noticed the leak behind the pulley.
When the dealer replaced the front seal, they didn't notice anything with the OMP.
The copper OMP gasket isn't difficult to replace and isn't expensive.
I've never replaced the front seal since the dealer did it, so I can't help you there.
You can spray carb cleaner on a rag and wipe away.

the front seal is NOT covered under the 100k mile core warrenty. I just took my car in for that problem. Dealership said it was not covered. I then called Mazda corporate to verify and even they confirmed it was not covered.

I was simply stating that a local had his front seal blow and the dealer DID cover it under warranty.
Just saying what we encountered... just because one dealer covered it doesn't mean another one will (or try to get out of covering it).
Welcome to the typical dealership BS world...

not just the dealership but Mazda North America confirmed it is not covered under the 100k core warrenty. It is covered under the 60k mile powertrain warranty if you happen to have less than 60k miles. I do not at 77k.

Mine is going in next week for it, and it is covered. Unless rules have changed in the last 6 months. It took a good guy at mazda and a bunch of phone calls from him to finally get the approval tho. It wasn't cut and dry.

looked to me like it must have taken out one or more of the plastic MOP lines He said the 2nd belt failure took out the MOP plug/wiring so it wouldn't take much to break those small plastic lines
