help stallin rx8
Ok so this is for my mom's RX-8. 06 with auto. Car has tremendous hesitation and has been cutting off frequently. Also sometimes during acceleration a knocking or metal reattling is heard. I know what engine knock is and I am very familiar with cars and rotary power so save the remedial ed comments. Need help here. She puts 93 only in it. Could she just have gotten a bad tank of gas??? (maybe clogged the fuel filter) I mean this has been happening off and on for the last 3 months and the dealer is being no help.(never seems to do it when we take it in or so they say) Anyone else out there with anything like this???? Also is what I am hearing the rotors, kind of like pinging and piston rattle. Any help would be appreciated. It's getting dangerous for my mom to even drive the car as it cuts off in the middle of traffic.

Sounds like CAT to me, but who really knows.
Just for grins.................how many miles, and do you know when the plugs and coils were last changed?
When you say under acceleration a rattling is heard...........is it coming from the glovebox area or seems to be coming from behind it?

The sound from the glovebox when redlining is MIAC(Marbles in a can), there is a fix for that and I'll link the thread for you to read.

However.............it's also time about time to change the plugs and coils.
There are ways to test the coils if you like. I'll try and attach that here as well. See below.

Take it to the dealer. Tell them whats going on. If they do a compression test and you need a new engine, the car has a 100,000 miles warrenty. If the test checks out ok then they will tell you wants wrong with it. Its up to you as far as how you want to fix it or who you want to fix it. GL!

Also need help!
Hey everyone, I'm new to the RX8Club, and happy to be a member. This car is sexy. Anyways, I'm sure you all know that. Heres some stuff about my car:
2004 Mazda RX8 13B Non-Turbo
102XXX Miles

Clean Title
Clean Body
$400!
Yea, I got it for $400 so obviously its going to have its issues.
It starts, and runs if I give it gas. The issue is that it won't idle and won't accelerate fast. It takes FOREVER to get up to around 15MPH and then it picks up like a normal car. Is this a fuel issue? Another reason why I think this is because when I restricted air into the intake (Accordian hose), it would idle. Is the car getting too much air or too little fuel? I'm gonna tackle the fuel sock today and check it out.
I've tested:
Coils (All of them provide good spark) (Unsure of brand)
Spark Plugs (None of them look old, little to no carbon buildup) (NGK Plugs and wires)
MAF (Car won't start without it and cleaned with MAF Cleaner)
ESS (Wouldn't come off, just sprayed cleaner on it as bolt was rusted on: Trying PB Blaster)
Oil (topped off)
Barometic Pressure Sensor (Unplugged and helped idle one day but same results now)
Clean CAT (Agency Power Midpipe - not clogged)
O2 Sensors (Honestly unsure as I didn't test, but OBD2 scanner didn't give any codes)
Has Stock starter, normal battery
Only lights on the dash are coolant, DSC OFF, and tire pressure, which all of them can be resolved easily.
I am almost positive that the apex seals are still good, and the engine has some life left. I'm not shutting off cold or anything, but hey, I could be wrong.
Haven't done a compression test because there are no rotary specialists nearby and the car hasn't been registered yet.
Does anyone have any ideas or other things I should check?
How does one check the ECU? And for the recalls which my car qualifies for, can I just bring my 8 on a trailer and will they service it? Or would they need registration, insurance, etc?
Thanks again
