Help! Weird grinding noise with rear right wheel

I just got off of work and it was about -2 celsius outside. I start the car and let it warm up. After that I made a u turn going left and the rear right wheel made some weird grinding noise. This is the 2nd time this has happened and it has only happened while it was cold outside. There was frost on my car. I dunno, I was just thinking maybe there was frost on the wheel somewhere and as the wheen was rotating the frost was breaking apart making that sound? Should I be worried about this?

Sounds like the limited slip differential is making a bit of noise because the oil is cold.
Try reproducing the sound under the same conditions: cold diff oil, immediate u-turn. Then try again after the diff oil is warmed up after a short drive, if it goes away you might be able to fix it by having your diff oil changed.
The other possibility is that the limited slip diff is working normally, but the tire is causing the noise as it 'skids' due to the tight turning circle. Are you sure it is a mechanical noise, and not tire to tarmac noise?

Ya, I was just thinking it might be the tire skidding on the tarmac. The car only has 1400 kms on it but maybe ill change the oil neway. I guess Ill just try and see what happens next time. This is my first rwd car and everyday I am finding out how different it is compared to fwd.

Did you have the parking brake on? Did the noise occur immediately as you started to turn left, IE as soon as the wheels started to turn?

If so, then that's likely the parking brake pads *sticking* to the rear rotors. Happens to me a lot if it's wet out and I put the parking brake on.

also check for ice build up in the spaces between spokes on the wheel.

Ya, the parking brake was on while I was at work but I took it off when I started the car. It also started making that noise as I started turning. Next time ill check for ice, just to bad its always night out when i get off work so its hard to see. haha

Well, it's not usually ice... someone else described it as the brake pads bonding or rusting to the discs after they've been wet (happens to me in my enclosed garage, even when it's relatively warm out). They usually break free when the back wheels start to turn for me. Even though I release the parking brake lever, the brake pads are still stuck until the wheels begin to rotate.

If you've been driving in cold wet weather, ie: snow or slush or freezing rain on the roads, then chances are your back pads/discs were wet. If you then put on the parking brake, they may have bonded to the disc. If your back wheel was rotating freely and *then* the sound started to happen, it's probably something else.

WV Grinding in rear at any speed

I recently bought a major headache that I don't want to get rid of. I have the 2004 Rx 8 GT, beautiful red...however, here comes the list of issues and I would be so thankful for any help you could give me
1- Grinding in rear at any speed. The rotors looked very rusty on the outside edge when it was purchased, changed brakes and rotors. The sound still there
2- Engine light was on (right after the papers were signed for ownership, amazingly enough) I recently had it scanned and was told that it showed misfire in multiple cylinders. Since there is only two...lol
3- Oil leak dripping on the floor, not major but constant. (Funny thing is, it never dripped in the showroom when the car was pulled out for test drive not a spot)

It looks like I have my hands full, but I am hoping it doesn't mean that me and my new baby aren't going to have to part ways due to major mechanical issues.
