How do I know if the dsc switch is broken?

So 2006 rx8 touring with dsc. When I push the button nothing happens. I checked the fuses and they are all good, how would I know if the issue is the switch itself?.

Does the DSC light come when you first power on the car, along with all the other dash lights?

If not then it's the light, if so I would check the switch wiring. If you hold it for 5+ seconds, does it do anything then?

So update from driving it. I can lose traction freely going WOT and quickly shifting first to second as well as if I launch from a dead stop. Traction control does not kick on like it should. Is it possible the traction control was permanently disabled? How do I check this?

I live in Florida, it rains 50% of the year and my wife will be driving the car every now and then so I want to turn this back on if it is disabled, otherwise I wouldn't care, lol.

If everything is working normally, DSC is on by default every time to start the car. You have to act to turn it off each time the car is started.

There are two DSC lights in the dash.
One for when the DSC system is off (it says "DSC Off") for when the system is operating normally but you pushed the button to turn it off.
The other (car rear silhouette fishtailing) is for DSC functionality. If it blinks momentarily while driving, that means that the system cut in to "save" you. If it lights up and stays lit, there's a malfunction.

If neither are on and DSC doesn't work it's time to look around. Is the ABS system working? DSC won't work if ABS doesn't work.

Also, which trim level do you have? Check to see if your car is actually equipped with DSC. Maybe somebody just added the button.

I have the touring, the button has the wiring and the fuses are how the dsc fuses are.

If the DSC light doesn't come on during the startup diagnostic, then it must not be getting a signal from the ECU. The dash is CANBUS driven. Was the ECU switched or reprogrammed at some point?

So I noticed that the break light on the trunk doesn't work. I recall the lights for the dsc/traction being on the same circuit. If there battery had died and they never reset the traction that could be why it's not working. That's what I'm thinking anyways.

There is a known issue with the wiring to the center brake light. The wire frays inside the little accordeon conduit that connects the trunk lid to the body. Find the fray and fix it, and the light should work. Not sure that affects the DSC but it might.

Okay updates, I went hard through a corner and the traction control kicked in. Felt like I was driving on a brick road. The traction light didn't blink though. Is it possible the light is burned out? How can I check I thought they were led on a board.

Stability control (which is what it actually is) doesn't really feel like a brick road, in the sense that it doesn't shudder. Were you on the brakes while taking that corner? Possible it was ABS? DSC induces understeer by applying the appropriate set of brakes and the car suddenly feels like molasses.

There are 2 DSC lights: the DSC off light, and the car with squiggly lines. The DSC light turns on when you deactivate it by pressing the button. When the system kicks in to help you drive, the car with squiggly lines flashes. The odds that both lights are burned out, and none of the other ones are, are pretty low.

Do both of these lights turn on when you first power on the car? All dash lights are supposed to activate at that point -- specifically so you know if any are burned out.

And yes, they are LEDs. So I still feel like you don't actually have DSC.

no i wasnt on the brakes going through the corner. the abs and dsc lights dont power on when I turn on the car like they are supposed to but all others do. also It has moonroof, fog lights, and leather which = GT package which would would have the DSC.

Fog lights arent working which I'm going to check if the bulbs are out.

I'm having the same problem. I haven't fixed it but....I did have no dsc lights come on pre start. I then reset the ecu and now the dsc light come on for about 3 sec when key is turn to acc. Still nothing at the button.
