how many have fuel stavation issues?
Just taking a count on the amount of people that have had, or are having fuel starvation issues. This is mentioned in several differant areas--but it seems to be happening more now a days. So I started a thread
If you have had this please post and what you did about it.
thanks

Yes....
I had a huge problem with starvation, I found the stock pump could not keep up in certain conditions - last third of a tank + hot engine + 6000 revs.
Found mostly during "spirited" driving (obviously!) I would hold 6 or 7k in hopes of an overtaking window, then when I finally gave it some real throttle it would just die. If I backed off, it would recover/catch up, but if I persisted trying to get revs and power, it would eventually roll to a complete stop!
Naturally, hard to replicate for the dealer's tech, I was in twice with the problem.
Tech is riding along with the WDS on his lap, and I'm trying to use as much gas as possible without breaking (too many) laws - fast spurts up to high speed on the highway, then braking and repeating. Not much results, so we head back into town and THEN it kicks in - no power, car is going slower and slower, I'm going down thru the gears, but there is not much on tap, now I'm holding up traffic and the '8 is creeping along.
All the time the tech is staring into his WDS, saying "No, nothing wrong, no codes, everything seems normal..." Eventually I had to say that ".....it was good that nothing was wrong, but could he help me push it to the side of the road?"
The fuel pump and resultant power loss/stall outs seem to not throw any codes in the computer, the only symptom they ever detected was a slight mis-fire on "cylinder two" as it quit.
New pump on warranty (it's a bit piece of kit, has the level sender built in) and now it is BETTER than ever - must have been "weak" from day-one! No high rev hesitation at all.

In mine I replaced the stock drivers side pump with a new one...and put the old pump in the passenger side tank on a switch.
With the new stock pump I have had only one episode of cutting out...in a long fast LH sweeper pushing about 1G at about 1/4 tank. I turned on the second pump and it was good on the next lap and good down to about 1/8th tank.
I think if I had the problem again...I would replace the stock pump first and see if that fixes the problem. I'd bet it would fix 90% of the problems

word.
I bet this is what happened to me on the dyno when i had a engine shutdown at 8K. We never did find out exactly what happened.
However I cannot replicate my problems except in one turn at one track. I dont think I want the tech to come along as a rider. Maybe i will have to replace myself.

It's a cheap experiment...only about $150........
I I had to do it again...I'd replace it myself with the dealership paying for it if it fixes the problem. Problem is getting them to believe fuel starvation in 1G LH sweepers is a design flaw...or a defect in the car

I had the same thing with my Cushman motor scooter in 1963. Take a right handed turn and it would slow from 25mph to 15. Aggravating. You know how long it took to get to 25mph on that dang thing.
Anyway as soon as I get a free $190 I guess i will be chunking out the back seat and getting to work. I just wonder how will I be able to see if that fix's it. I am not due for Roebling again until next spring---sighh.

I've had it with a little over 1/4 tank indicated in a 180 degree LH sweeper. It took long enough to recover that I ended up coming to a stop and screwing up my rotors.
I'll just keep 1/2 tank or more.
EDIT: Brake rotors, not the engine rotors.

RX8 and a Truk....
Anyone who has had the Dealer replace the fuel pump care to do me a favour? If you've got your service paperwork, and could scan or photograph it for me (edit out all your personal data), it'd REALLY help my dealership; they've yet to experience a complaint.
Thanks
