Huge oil leak !!
Hello
I'm wondering if some of the rotor geeks may be ae to shed some light on a problem I have ?
Yesterday I topped my beautiful 8 up with oil, it was just above the low mark. I use 5/30 semi synthetic...I then went for a little run..
Now I think it important to say that I have been noticing a little patch of oil on my drive, only a few drops over night.
On my return to my house I parked on my drive and stayed there for a couple of hours. When I went to go to work I drove off of my drive and to my horror a huge mass of oil the size of my engine bay was on the driveway... So I immediately parked back up.. Oil pressure was fine and on checking the oil again found it to be just above the low mark again. ??????
On looking at my engine today it's hard to tell where it's coming from because the entire engine is covered in oil ( it was clean and dry yesterday ) please has anyone any ideas as at the moment it's seems quite a daunting task even finding where it's coming from.. Although my oil catch tank breather seemed to be saturated !!!!!!!

Let me get this straight. You found a huge oil leak under your car so you started it up?
Are you I-N-S-A-N-E?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Second:
Unless you have a aftermarket gauge installed the Oil gauge on the Dash does not display pressure (at least in the Series I)
So have you checked anything yet?
Did you put the dipstick back?
How about the Oil Cap?
There was a TSB for corrosion on the Oil Cooler Lines.
What's an oil catch tank breather?

^^^ LOL
Touche' I indeed read it wrong.
Your still going to have to dig in and get dirty to see what's wrong, unless you take it to a mechanic.
The Oil Cooler Lines are known to corrode
Could be the OMP leaking
The OMP is located near the front on the passenger side

Shouldn't be related to his problem.
Like WCS stated, check the oil cooler lines for corrosion. You mentioned that you always saw few drops of oil in the driveway, that should have been an alert to you since this motor lives and dies by its oil consumption.

Well you can always just hope you did a terrible job pouring oil into the filler tube.
If your not careful when adding oil the oil can actually travel the lower edge just inside the filler tube.
The edge connects to the nipple at the top of the filler cap which has a tube that runs to the intake according tube.
Sounds like your setup is a bit different.
Anyways ... if this happens and you are pouring a lot of oil in the filler tube and not being careful it can make quite a mess in the according tube.
Maybe you filled that weird Oil Breather thing with oil and it blew out all over the place.
Just something to consider....
Looks like you're getting dirty either way! SWEET!
