I NEED HELP BAAADD!! Intake Screens
I have know idea what to do. My problem is both of my screens inside the OEM intake have ripped completely. My idle sucks ***, and is really annoying. I went to the dealership thinking I could just go buy two new ones but come to find out mazda does not even make them, or sell them by themselves. This is total BS. The guy told me I have to purchase a whole new stock intake which is $450, F*** that.
So I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, any ideas or solutions would help me a ton.

Well I have had the SR intake the K&N intake, the REVI intake and now I went back to the OEM setup with the mod and an AFE filter in there. I think the Stock box works the best.
I have the RB Duct on the car already and if i were to get the AEM I dont want to deal with cleaning it bc it would be a pain plus if I were to buy another after market intake most of them still have areas you need to put one or both screens in.
I have tried to think of everything but I really and stumped on this one....
STUPID *** SCREENS!!

I had one of the screens torn and fortunately a local member had an extra one.
I'd put up a F/S thread asking to buy them or buy someone's stock box.
some intakes don't reuse both screens.
good luck man

I have no idea I wish I knew the answer to that one. I was cleaning the filter and cleaning the MAF I keep up on my car very much. There was also some oil in the TB hose behind the MAF also on my drop in filter. It may have been from some oil running over them but I doubt it.
I am puzzled by this and I have some PM's out to local guys but idk what else to do.
I am baffled that MAzda didnt make these as a seperate part to sell for like $10 bucks a peice or something.... WTF

rodjonathan I hope to god you have them...lol, I am talking about the two screens that smooth the air flow over the MAF. They are in the intake horn. They are real easy to get out.
If you have them PM me and let me know
Thanks a ton

Yea I wish it were that easy, I mean i tried. I cut some screen but its just hard to get them to stay in place I dont wanna super glue them bc if this happens again I dont want that mess.
These screens are so small but such a huge pain in my *** haha. If no one can come through with any idea or solution. I just may have to break down and by the damn thing.

With RB or or AEM you need 1 screen anyhow.
Go to junk yard and buy the intake or screens. Most likely tou will have to buy the intake.
Go to Ace Hardware look for screens go to granger online and check for screens.
Or just buy screen at ace cut to size with a little over wrap. Glue in place.

The AEM comes with two screens in the couplers, so you don't reuse the stock screens.
But like others mentioned, throw a post in the F/S thread and I'm sure someone can take care of you.

I ran my car for 2 years without any screens at all and it ran sweet . Only other intake mods were k&n drop in and RB duct .
I say try it without screens and see how it runs RB say each screen costs about 1-2 hp so there is your gains from an intake anyway ....

Sooo I just got finished detailing inside the engine bay and all that jazz. I am still trying to figure out what to do about these intake screens. If anyone else has them and would like to sell them let me know. Right now I ran the car without them and without the horn inside the intake box and the idle is a bit sketchy but holds. Let me know fellas.
Thanks
Thanks

OK well after messing with things a little I reset the ECU and cleaned the AFE filter then cleaned up everything else. I put in back in without the screens and no intake horn and the damn thing was lifting off the ground....I **** you not I felt a difference the car was sooo smooth all the way to redline no hesitating at all. I also cleaned the MAF sensor real well.
I literally just took it for a spin a hard one, and powerband is smooth, no cels, I feel the difference no doubt, the idle is much better.
Idk if anyone else has taken out both screens and the intake horn, but its a nice little mod by mistake if you want to call it that.
I would still be interested in buying some screens from someone if they have them just in case something happens, so you can PM me if you have any.
Thanks guys for the help and everything fellas......

Well I am N/A and the car ran freakin AMAZING today, that was without the intake horn and both screens. I have the RB duct also soooo....
Idk if this is weird for my car to respond this well to me doing this but it kicks ***.
By far this is the smoothest idle I have had since I have owned the car which has been 78K.
It purrs right around 900rpms right below a grand....It used to freakin bounce all over sometimes it would bounce to about 1500 and go back and forth while I was sitting..

The screens are nothing special. You can honestly buy screen door material or anything that is a similar design and improvise something so the car runs correctly.
I'd be curious to see what the fuel trims are for those of you who don't run screens. The MAF is very touchy and doesn't respond well to uneven airflow through the intake. The screens force the air to flow in an even fashion to ensure proper MAF readings are taken.
