I think my OMP has died...
#26
Yea Jeff I realize it takes time for the ECU to relearn... but its been like 20 drive cycles. Anyway... wonder how I will persuade the dealer my OMP is dead? Cant tell them I have the Cobb?

The absolute MAXIMUM number of complete drive cycles you could have completed by TODAY is three!
As far as replacing the OMP goes, unless it is physically broken (ie - pieces hanging off of it) you wont persuade them to replace it.
Even though there is a test for its function in the FSM, the monkeys at the dealership will have NEVER tried that test before and wont know how to do it.

What Jedi said ^
I do LOTS of short trips around town everyday.... So, I will make a guess... Complete drive cycle must equal complete warm up to complete cool down?

I just found the test in the FSM.... Looks like I could test it myself... I wonder if I do the test and give them the results if That would convince them to take a look.... hmmm...

You effectively DID the test.
Crank the OMP, look for smoke.
No smoke = bad OMP.
If you tell them YOU did the test they'll tell you "you are now out of warranty" and you will have to fight them.

05shinka, Having read your thread I would not worry about what to say to the Dealer..
Just take the car there and say you have been monitoring your Oil use, via the dipstick over the past 4 weeks and you are not using any engine oil at all, then just suggest "could it be the MOP?".
As far as your AP goes, I think I would remove it...if you can?, because you are giving the Dealer and Mazda an Out...I guess you still have a B2B Warranty?
Good Luck

Funny... I called Mazda today and gave them my story... They basicly said "Bring it in, and leave it... we dont know how long it will take."
Sucky... you would think they would have some kind of Idea on how long it takes to change the OMP.

/\, In all fairness to the Dealer at this stage, if they are doing it by warranty they want to make sure it is the MOP first off, which it more than likely is.
How long would it take?, Well MOP's are not something they would replace very often, I have not heard of many being done.
If they looked it up they would know what the "allowable" times are from their Mazda Warranty Operational Codes which gives them a set R&R (remove and replace) claim time.
I am really not sure on that one (I don't have time schedules) but I hope they don't have to remove too much of other parts to get to it, would be bad if they had to remove engine, but, I doubt that, PM Charles, he would know for sure.
I would think it would take no longer than a day, two at the latest..including testing.
Hang on, they would more than likely have to order in the MOP, so they might give you the car back again, I am not sure how long it takes to source Mazda Parts from Distribution.
You had better take a few "patient pills"..
