Exclamation Idle issues and fix!

Hi

A few weeks ago they installed my second new engine... pffff...

I had a Greddy turbo kit installed and had idle issues for as long as I remember...

But if you have a turbo kit installed, every problem is, of course, due to the kit... So I decided to let them take the Greddy kit of the car so I could get everything sorted before installing it again.

The car returned to me with (yeppieeee) the same idle issues.

1) What idle problem ? -> at stand still / the idle RPM dropped -> causing "shakes" " trembles" If I was unlucky it even stalled (-> when temps got hotter) Also when cruising I could sometimes feel a sort of "surge" loss of power for a very short period. (like somebody was pulling the handbrake for a sec)

What solved it ?? Well they couldn't find it straight away so I drove the car and felt the situation getting worse. Now I also noticed a loud "clunck" sound.

2) The fix ?

It was the airco compressor that caused these issues because there wasn't enough gas on the system!!!

Did I have to go to all that, for so long.. pfffff..

But now, really, idles are perfect and very smooth again.

So everybody with idle issues .. let them check the gas / pressure on your airco systems!!

Cheers

Steve

That's interesting. I would have thought that an overfilled AC might put more strain on the engine, and an underfilled one would actually be less strain. I'm not sure why low refrigerant would put more of a load. Can anyone explain?

Maybe with low fill the unit cycled on much more often and longer trying to compensate for the low cooling delivery (?)

This is awesome. I think I have the same problem.. my A/C isn't working and I have a rough idle... today it dipped pretty bad twice

I was thinking of just getting the most recent flash done, but I guess I'll get my a/c fixed at the same time.

To much Freon in the A/C system is not a good thing. And if your freon is low then you have a bigger problem on your hands. A leak. Freon never goes bad as well

Was it idling bad only when the AC was on, or every time?

Small update from me:

Dealer filled up my airco today. It needs 430 grams, and there was only 250! (Never filled in 4,5 years)

Idle is smooth now!

what if you were NOT using the A/C, were you having this issue still?

I asked because if I have my AC on, hot car, and idling, my car will do the lower RPM cycle every 10 or 15 secs. (from like 800-900 to 500-600 or so)

With the A/C off, it does it every so often but it seems more like its the fan coming on while I idle.

Car drives perfectly find other wise. This just seems like a very odd fix to me. I don't see how it works.

The symptoms the OP described are really identical to mine.

but ive had my wierd idle for aslong as i can remember.

and my air condenser is shot right now because of getting a small rock through it from the roads. and this happened a few months ago. so its also a bit wierd to see this as a fix. but then again im a noob

and id also like to know if this is only happening when the AC is on.

I never noticed a real difference between on and off. Then again, I don't have the AC on very often.

Dealer filled the AC, idle is smooth now, no coincidence if you ask me.

Sure, just buy the 134a recharge kit for about $20-$30 at the auto store or walmart.

This makes total sense to me other than me needing to clean the MAF, ecentric shaft, as well as having an even greater issue with the AC on because I notice that my car will vibrate and have idle issues as you described like every 3-5 secs with the AC on but off it also had issues but seems to be worse when on. I thought something was worng with the engine mounts but I got those changed and that did not work. This thread is very helpful sense I already had a feeling that something was wrong with the AC when turned on. I will get this checked as well as getting the BHR igntion kit and I should be fine. Everywhere I took my car, everyone kept saying nothing was wrong and the only place that said somehting was worng was the mazda dealership and that was just about spark plugs, coils and basically I had a missfire. My car is healthy otherwise.

Your probably feeling the drop when the cooling fan kicks on. It'll cycle more often when the A/C is running.

Makes sense. I def think my vibrating should be fixed with my new ignition kit from BHR and getting the dealership to look into my AC compressor, then getting everything else cleaned because my engin e was tested so many times as well as everything and everything was good except for the igntion coils and plugs but I don't know hy they did not find anything on my AC unit.
