idle problem

I finished installing a used engine in the car. when I fired it up the car wont stay at idle, it keeps jumping from 800 to 1200. when I unplugged the maf sensor the car idles perfect. I did the 20 stomps on the brake pedal to reset the ess. anything else I might be missing?

thanks in advance

Possibly a vacuum leak.

Something similar happened to me when I did not plug my ecu back in properly.

You need the car to drive a few miles. The the ECU learns the mixture and idles properly.

You can usually do it by going around the block a couple of times.

Update: figured out that it was the ssv actuator that was causing the bad idle. it looks all rusted up and the little metal leverage it has at the bottom is very loss. after holding the leverage with a screw driver the car idled perfect. saturday im going to swap the one from my old engine to this one. anybody know an easy way to do this? it pretty hidden up the intake manifold.
