Well its not touching. Im just assuming it vibrates and is maybe is hitting it because it is close by.

I installed the mount correctly. I've done it 3 times now. Maybe there is an issue with the arm that comes off the motor? I'm not sure.

To be honest I almost feel like the whole passengers side of the car is lower than the rest. If I put a jack underneath the car, at the lowest setting it can slide underneath the crossmember on the driver's side, but hits the crossmember on the passenger's side. Maybe there is an even deeper issue.

Do you have a Prosport or Racing Beat oil sandwich adapter installed? Do you have an aftermarket strut bar installed?

When raising the motor, it will hit on the underside of my GTSPEC strut bar, so I removed the bar. Had I not done so, getting the engine high enough to do the mounts probably would have broken the UIM. This would cause the car to run poorly. The stock bar likely has more clearance, but I don't know how much more.

The next point the raised engine hit was the oil filter contacting a plastic bracket on the firewall which guides two tubes. It would not have hit without the sandwich adapter most likely. That might give a cracking sound, and possibly crush the tubes (though I don't offhand know what they are for; might cause running problems).

Hmm, I have the stock strut bar, and I have a racing beat intake system. No aftermarket parts. A couple of the hoses more towards the radiator say Yokohama on them. But I dont think they are anywhere near the engine.

I mean if worse comes to worse I really only see 2 options. Paying a bunch of money at the dealer to prolly get 999 things I dont need and still have the problem; or: This Sunday I'll try putting the OEM mounts back in to narrow down whether it's the mounts or something else.

Hopefully when me and my local mechanic look at it this afternoon I hope he just points at something and says: "Oh hey you just gotta tighten ____ down!", but sadly, I doubt that'll be the case.

Well my mechanic put it on a lift and checked it out and said that he thinks it's just the way the mounts are. They said they didnt think anything was wrong with how they were installed and just think that because they are the stiffer mounts, it may just be the way they are that I get the vibration when starting to give gas.

I'll look into what Scott said about the power bar on sunday when i have time, and from there I'll just leave it be. I dont think its hurting the car at this point.

After inspecting the underside of my vehicle I noticed something that I have not seen before. On the passengers side on the side (outside side) of my exhaust line there is a flap of metal that looks like it is bolted to the chassis but is warped (its thin, and looks like its sagging down so i can see inside the sagging portion) and you can see insulation (looks exactly like dynomat) inside it when looking underneath the car on the passengers side. I will take pictures later. Any idea what this is or if it could be whats causing this issue?

Well I just wanted to give an update on this. Turns out it was actually the newly installed mounts.

I installed new OEM mounts tonight and took it out for a drive. Its back to normal and silky smooth.

Now, like many said, these mounts are ridiculously easy to install, and I tried raising and dropping the motor multiple times, as well as adjusting the tightness on the nylock on the middle bolt. For some reason though they just were not compatible with my 8.

I'm wondering if the height of the mounts just caused a rubbing or a bad vibration with something else that is actually wrong with my car. I know dannobre had these and said they were great, but for me there was just some kind of problem.

Hey guys, it's been a few weeks since I've posted. I have been busy with a new job and I also just ordered my snow tires for the winter which I'm excited about.

I just kinda wanted to point out though that even though I switched back to new OEM mounts, and I do not have the original issue I have posted here, that my shifter **** is vibrating more than ever. It doesnt so much when the car is cold, but once it's warmed up, it does a lot. I also get a lot of transmission whining when taking off in 1st and 2nd gear at low RPMs. Maybe that's normal. I thought at first maybe It could possibly be something with the tranny because if I put my hand on the shifter, the further I push down the gas pedal, the more the shifter vibrates. But looking down I see that the shifter actually just vibrates the most while I'm in neutral while the car is not moving, and warm.

I'll take a video some time and post it so you can see the severity.

Any hunches? Also, I'll point out that when I had the RX8 performance mounts in, the shaking in the **** was not as severe, I'd imagine because they're stiffer. Would this then point to the motor being the issue?

Sounds like your engine is just running a little rough to me .

Just bought these RX8performance mounts myself and am hoping they are not going cause too much irritating vibration . My feeling is the people who fit aftermarket parts tend to downplay the negative side effects and it's not till you try these things that you find out the side effects are damn annoying.

First hand experience is best, but I find them perfectly fine. I only notice a difference when starting from a dead stop and under ~2500 rpm. Clutch takeup requires a bit more finesse because there's not much give to hide bad technique. And I consider my car to be a GT, not a racer, to the point of upgrading the stereo, carrying a spare tire, and skinning the entire interior with sound dampening material. I think you'll be happy.

I have had them on my car for 8 months or so....through about 12 track days this summer...and they are a good combination of stiffer...without the annoying vibrations from the older style "Race Roots" type mounts that Scott built before. Personally I didn't find a degradation from stock that I had on the car just before I put these in.

I might not be the best to give you an opinion for street use though...my suspension is all Heim joints and stiff springrates, big bars and a full 3" exhaust ........makes for a go-cart like ride and a lot of noise

That's what i mean . I fitted his diff mounts and didn't like the extra vibration one bit - hated the way the car felt actually . He says he has had no other complaints but this could well be because they are going to people like yourself who have loud exhausts and wouldn't notice the subtle difference.
