A couple of days of hard driving fixes this most of the time, if not its dealership time.

The proper fix involves yaking the engine so you can get the lower intake manifold off and replace the valve... if you intend on the driving hard approach, i suggest you make damn sure its good before your warranty runs out

the valve in question cannot be seen while installing a simple CAI. you need to take the upper manifold off to even see it

If you need me to take a Picture of it you can try fiddling with the actuator with your hand it may move it. Mine on the other hand had some serious carbon build up so we had to take apart and pour in some Cleaner and I had to drive it hard for it to clear up. But ever since then the car runs great and like I said if you need any help just ask I can take a pic of it and show where to check if it is stuck.

(you want to look for the two nipple looking things in the middle near your intake manifold. Try moving the actuator with your hand it should open and close easily if it is not blocked)

Ya i have an appointment today to pick up a rental im at 42k miles so still under warranty and i get to drive around whatever they give me....hopefully something fun.......my check engine light did go off after driving the car a little hard but i spoke with the service department and at first they said great then we can cancel your appointment...then i voiced my concerns about having a problem with this in the future. They talked to a tech and he advised me to bring it in while im still under warranty...because i dont want to have to pay for that **** once my car hits 50k miles

OK GUYS......UPDATE......I had the car looked at and what they said is that I have to pay $129 to have fuel system clean?....if car isnt driven enough or hard enough carbon build up blah blah blah blah blahhhh.....Then i said "bumper to bumper warranty?" why say that if your not going to cover issues the car encounters?....Service person said thats exactly what her question was to the service manager which she said she was going to voice my concerns and call me back on the issue....anyway i got a free rental out of it..Pontiac G6...fast smooth drive only has 9k miles...anyway...if anyone has anything to add to this...that would be great

Buy a can of BK44 and drive it hard for two tanks. In my 115,000 miles of ownership I have had the stuck valve CEL twice and both times it went away with hard driving.

Please be safe and don't get a tickect. You can always rev it high in a straight line.

Keep it at 7 grand or more.

If they are doing warranty work on the car, they should replace the intake and the valve. You can do a fuel system clean yourself for the price of a can of BK44, which is a HELL of a lot less then $129 (and thats the same thing they're gonna do).

Ok...so....heres the UPDATE #2
So after dropping off my car and picking up the rental...
I get a call today at 10:15a.m....service department, that piece is not covered by warranty and if i want the work done i can pay for it as well as the cost of the rental will have to be covered by myself. Ok how do you give me a free rental and then take it back???....like i was suppose to know ahead of time mazda doesnt abide by its warranty???....service manager wont budge...ok i tell him do the work but if after the work is done i have the same issue up to how many miles is the work covered for..? (Stunned him with that one) he had no answer...and said until the end of your warranty...so i said "the warranty that doesnt cover this in the first place"....left it at that hung up got back to work then i decide let me call up Mazda Corporate....i tell them about the whole issue above and getting stuck with paying for a rental....they say "we are going to call mazda in massachusetts and have the rental covered, as far as the other issue, thats a maintenance issue that we cannot cover." ok fine by me i save myself $40 on a rental....thennnn i get a call 15 minutes later from the dealership "good news we got a call saying that corporate is covering your rental, we are sick of the flip flopping by mazda on this issue so we are going to cover all the work...you can pick up your car and Ohara Mazda will take care of everything"...........FINALLY the answer i was looking for before i started this whole mess............Good luck with your carbon build up guys because this seems to be a real issue with these cars.....Thanks to everyone that replied...I couldn't have b.s.'d all the knowledge you gave me before i talked to the #2 in the country service tech (oh sure)...that ensured me about the proper way to handle a p2070 for $120....I LOVE THE RX8 CLUB

u can fix it with less than 10 dollars if lucky. like me, i spent 8 dollars to get bottle of redline S1. people suggested me to get BG44K but hell, i couldnt buy it in canada....but i eventually found some redline fuel injector cleaner; poured one bottle into a full tank of gas, went on a high way at midnight, revved it couple times; fixed!

I would recommend:

1. Red Line SI-1
http://www.redlineoil.com/products_f...bCategoryID=11

2. GUMOUT, All-in-one complete fuel system maintenance
http://www.gumout.com/products.asp?products=1_11

They have 2 advantages. They clean out deposits AND they also lubricate.

The RX-8 has a 2way problem. You need to eliminate carbon deposits AND pre-mixing is helpful to provide extra lubrication because the OMP of the present RX-8 engine is arguably not completely adequate. I don't like pre-mixing, by itself because you are not dealing with the carbon buildup problem.

Both of these products can be used continuously or specifically to try to help your type of issue.

Water?

Anyone remember the old trick to clean carbon from an engine?
Remove air cleaner, rev to about 3000 rpm, spray a fine mist of water down the intake.
Repeat as required...

Does this still work on the new rotaries?

I had the same issue but they told me it was carbon build-up causing it to stick. I had 65k on the odo at the time. My CNA extended warranty covered the charge so I was good to go. No problems since.

Also, they will only pay for a rental car if they actually fix something on your car, otherwise it comes out of your pocket. I recently handed my car over for two weeks trying to diagnose the loss of power issue and when they couldn't find anything they said I had to pay for the rental since they didn't do any actual work to the car. Luckily, my father is a finance manager at another dealer and he sells a lot of CNA warranties so they covered it for us as a favor. Otherwise, I would have been out about $350.

Next time don't go scrambling for a rental car until after they diagnose the problem. You might get stuck with the bill if they don't find anything wrong or find something not covered under warranty.
