Intermittent squeaky noise coming from underneath the car after HKS exhaust installed
Hi guys
I recently have my HKS Hi-Power (single outlet) exhaust installed and the exhaust is connected to my after market CAT & resonator.
The exhaust was great, but ever since I installed the exhaust, I start hearing an intermittent squeaking noise from underneath the car. I couldn't locate the exact location and thanks for the "intermittence", my mechanics couldn't find it neither since it wasn't making any noises during the preliminary test.
So far, I found the noise occurs intermittently after the engine is well warm-up. In other words, the noise only starts after around 5~10 mins of driving (depending on whether it's a cold start or not). It can happen when I drive on Freeway, rough surface road or even when the car stands still (basically anytime..).
This is driving me crazy guys. Please help here! Thanks a lot!

I don't know if your problem is like mine, but I had a squeaky noise after I installed my Trust exhaust. I later found out it was the exhaust hooks that was touching the exhaust shields during shifting. Every time when you are on the gas the exhaust will move to the left depending on the throttle or how much gas you give it, the hook would touch the other parts of the plate which causes a metal vibration sound. So you can just ignore it or try to rehook the exhaust so they don't touch by moving the rubber boot around or try to bend the hooks a little which I think should be pretty hard. It seems even though they say they are a "direct replacements", there are still some tolerance between each one made. So if yours happen to be more marginal then this could happen. Well don't know if yours is like mine, but that's what I'm guess it could be. You can replicate the problem by going at different speeds over uneven roads or small speed bumps.

make sure you didnt damage the heat shield that covers the area over the stock resonator..... I ripped the foil on mine, and after a while it worked itself loose all the way up to the top and at speed it would rub on the resonated creating an awful squeaking, grinding noise that was very annoying.
I did remove it completely and ordered a thermal blanket from DEI to replace it. While driving since, I have noticed that the center console gets really hot.

I think my problem (squeaking noise) ONLY occurs after the engine is well warmed up. So i guess it's probably not because of the hook. Coz if it is, i would have imaged that it will squeak all the time regardless the engine is warmed up or not. I suspect it's something to do with the heat which expand the exhaust and causing this squeaky noise around the exhaust joint...
I post a clip to demonstrate the squeaky noise I referred to in the post. You should hear that clearly from around 0:25 secs. You probably need to turn your speakers' BASS down a bit before you hear it, coz man, the exhaust is bassy....

Hi Grungepup,
Nope, I replace my stock CAT & resonator with aftermarket Hi flow cat and resonator, so the heat shield mentioned shouldn't be a problem. But thanks anyway!!
As I mentioned before, the car only start to squeak after the engine is well warmed up....

Hi Zoom44,
It was my initial suspicion. However, when my mechanic went underneath the car and tried to shake the exhaust, nothing made any squeaky noise. Or maybe he was just in a hurry and didn't do/"shake" it thoroughly on that day?:P
