Jump Starting 04 GT

Hello all,

I was hoping that I could get some advice on my current situation.

My Rx8 has been sitting for a month or 2 without starting(I know I know, I was away). So of course the battery is dead. I tried jump starting it with a running vehicle, the 8 starts and runs but the horn and signal lights start flashing.

Is there a special procedure to jump start it? How do I stop the horn/lights after jumping if no special procedure exists?

~I searched for topics similar to my issue and could not find a clear & definite answer.~

Thanks in advance.

Just take the battery out and take it to get charged.

I had this happen once.
I think all I did was make sure the doors were shut while hooking the battery up.
Been a couple years since that happened so memory is a little foggy.

But like 9krpmrx8 said, take it out to get charged.
Places like Autozone will do it for free (if its even chargeable).
Once it drops below a certain voltage (usually 5V), the chances of recharging it is slim to none.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have to try that.

Is there a radio code I should have to worry about? I know Honda's have one and the dealership can get it for you. What about Mazda?

Nope, no radio code to worry about when disconnecting the battery. I had a honda before... man was that a pain in the ***.

You will have to reset some of the other systems though (traction control and DSC), but those procedures easily found with the search function.

I think everyone here would recommend getting an Optima battery, red or yellow top depending on your needs. I did also read that CostCo has the best price on those. Make sure you get the 35R so the terminals are on the correct side.

Damn it Vyn.... you don't need the 35R

I purchased mine from SummitRacing:

A while back I would have too. But I've come across a lot of negative information about Optima batteries regarding a perceived drop in quality over the last few years.

I installed a yellow-top in Spring 2005, and just recplaced it a couple of weeks ago. So basically, 4 years of service. Not bad, but from what I've read the quality has dropped since I bought that one.

Instead of replacing with another Optima, I decided on Odyssey, which are also AGM batteries with deep-cycle capability. Their group35 battery is quite a bit more capacity than the Optima also, if you're not put off by its 50 lbs weight. I also learned that the Sears Diehard Platinum P5 is a re-branded Odyssey battery, so I got it there for about $50 cheaper than what I'd originally expected to pay. And the Sears warranty is 4 years free replacement and 100 months pro-rated!

The car thinks you stole it.

Check your buttons. Make sure they are not stuck.

Also use the remote buttons to open the car.

If the car door is locked and you open it up from the inside the car alarm will go off.

I believe it is something simple like this.
