Limp then constant CEL + TCS
Hi All,
Any insights to what might be the cause for the following, remedies even better:
Accelerating in 2nd, at about 6K on the tach caught a drop to limp mode and both the CEL and TCS indicator lights came on constant and stayed that way. Limp mode released immediately after backing off on the accelerator, CEL and TCS remain lit constantly now. Backup info: 03 build MT at 85K miles, about 30K on reman replacement motor, primarily stock except for Mazdaspeed CAI and rear wing. Had been driving that day at various speeds and durations for about two hours prior to the issue above handling various errands. Environmental: was a cold, wet day - lots of water splash due to snow melt plus rain.
Thanks in advance !

No, doesn't explain the limp mode or the steady CEL that came on with the steady TCS.
Actually caught a break today and had a chance to swing by my dealer with it so I could get the codes pulled - P0103. So they pulled the CAI and MAF and found a bunch of moisture. Dried out the CAI and cleaned the MAF and I'm back in business.
With the heavy road ponding and rain, pulling hard acceleration(s) had sucked moisture up through the CAI (with a boot on it no less) and fouled the MAF.

Been driving the car since Oct 2003 and have had plenty of occasions to let the rear end get loose. Flashing TCS is no big thing. Never had a TCS come on steady and stay steady for miles after the initial slip in the rear occured. Your right it should have nothing to do with limp + CEL normally, but my guess is the TCS hitting at the same time the limp + CEL did caused the TCS logic to freeze.

Just had the same thing happen yesterday. Engine started to limp and both lights went on. I restarted and the TCS went off but the CEL stayed on til I got the code pulled. I went to a dealership first...they didn't have anyone that could pull a code...wtf? how hard is it to walk out with the scanner? so I went to autozone. Same code, the info said MAF had fouled basically. Good to know what I have to do this weekend now. I have the AEM CAI with the boot on too.
