Long Starting
Hey,
I have a 04 Rx8 with 65k miles
I took my car out of storage this year without any issues, the car was running great until like two weeks ago. Now it seems like i have to hold the key longer in start, its cranking over put not firing up right away. it runs fine when it does fire up but i don't know why its taking so much longer now, can it be my ignition coils? i checked plugs and cleaned them but prob still persists, any ideas or similar prob?
thanks for the help

Ive been having the same problem as of late. Also, its been happening after I turn my car off and let it sit for an extended period of time, not during quick restarts like say stalling the car out for example :p.

this also occured today and it took exceptionally long, almost 6-7 full seconds. When the car did start, i could smell the distinct odor of gasoline, as if the engine was slightly flooded and was running very lean

My 8 does this if I turn it off and then try to turn it right back on (ex. going to the store for something really quick).
I am going to the dealership tomorrow for an Oil Change so maybe I can see if they can pinpoint the problem to see if it really is the Plugs/Coils/Wires and maybe I can fix it all myself.

So I went to the Mazda dealer today and had them change my oil and change my oil filter. While they were there, I asked them to check to see if I had my 30k service done to my 8 (I purchased the car when it had 32k on it) and they checked it for me without charging me anything.
Once they were done they told me that nothing looked bad, but they mentioned that the 30k service is usually done around 37,500 miles, which I am close to.
So they never mentioned if the Plugs/Wires/Coils were the problem, but they told me that they will need to be replaced soon, so I guess I will find out in 4k miles lol.
I didn't want them to get too in depth with trying to figure out the problem, didn't want to pay extra money (paid $40 for a complete oil change and for them to check everything....not bad I think).

have you gotten updated starter? start with that.
Once that is rules out get it checked to make sure its working properly, get a higher capacity bat.
THEN i would move to my ignition coils. Those usually tend to go out relatively soon.
