Loss Of Power

Loss Of Power
Hi guys, only had my 2003 Rx8 for 2 months and alls been well but now i have noticed a significant loss in power when accelerating. Could this be the coil packs as I know they dont last too long? The cars just coming up to 60000 miles on the clock and from the history its only had one coil replaced about a year ago. Any ideas anyone.
Thanks
Thanks

With 60,000 miles on 3 of the coils, you are almost certainly having power loss from coil failure. They only last about 30,000 miles.
However, just "power loss" without additional information could be any of the following:
- Coil failure
- Plug failure
- Plug wire failure
- Cat failure
- Compression loss
- Dirty MAF
- O2 sensor failure
- Fuel Filter clogged
- Fuel pump failure
- Battery terminals corroded
- Air filter clogged
- Fuel injectors clogged
- Fuel injectors leaking
- E-shaft sensor misaligned
- Fuel trims not set/reset
- Incorrect MAF scaling
- Carbon Buildup
- SSV failure
- Coolant seal failure
- Mental problems (including faulty memory and inability to drive)

Thanks for the reply guys and the welcome.
There is no engine management light on to suggest anything is wrong. The engine sounds a bit louder than normal but the car will quite happily get up to speed but just not as quick as it used to. If I was to put the power loss into a percentage I would say im only getting 70%. Its acting like its lugging something heavy.

Our check engine light is best used with a large block of salt and a tinted lens.
Most of our big issues never throw a CEL, and most of the CELs that we do throw, are minor annoyances.
It's always worth getting it read when it pops up, but assuming no light means everything is fine is a bad way to go. The short list of major problems with no CEL include: compression loss, many cat failures, ignition failure, starter failure, many vacuum leaks, motor mounts, clutch problems, transmission problems, water pump failure, some power steering failures, some O2 failures, etc....

My bad. Maybe I should add vagueness, ambiguous context, and misleading descriptions to my posts, maybe with the occasional deliberate false information thrown in for good measure. Make it fit with so many other threads out there

...and possible carbon buildup issues given the quality of the ignition process for thousands of miles.
heartbreakid666, did you follow mazda's maintenance schedule? 1 oil change every 12000mi and all that BS? it may be relevant as well... Not as a main cause but as the reason why everything got even worse.
