Low power at high RPM, bad cat? No normal warning signs.
So I have had what is perceived as low power within the last few weeks. I havent had my coils, plugs, or wires changed in about 25K miles so I have just recently ordered all three (they should arrive this week). I have been reading through a lot of threads with low power symptoms and I have become nervous that my cat could be the culprit. My car has 85K miles and to my knowledge its still on the original cat. I just learned of the 8yr/80K mile emissions warranty, so Im kind of ticked I missed that.
I have no typical signs of cat failure though, no check engine light, no flashing engine light, no smokey smells, and no rattle can sounds. The transmission tunnel does tend to get hot during spirited driving, but it has always done this. I did go for a long drive last night, and when I parked the car I looked under it towards the cat and did notice a slight red hue from the cat, but it was very feint, nowhere close to "glowing" as most have described.
Any incites are helpful. I dont want to dish out for a new cat if I dont have to. I am also taking the car to the dealer in a few weeks to have a compression test done (my warranty ends august 15) so I was thinking of asking them to pull off the cat and have a look inside.
Thanks for the help in advance.
