Mazda can't fix the noise under the hood
I dropped my 8 last monday night they changed the A/C and pulleys that didnt work. They changed the Air compressor pulley's and belt that didnt work. So the whole time my car was in the shop for 3 days they couldnt figure it out. I dont know if anyone is having similar problems. I hear this chirping noise it sounds like the belt or something you can hear it rotating. I might have to dropped it off again next week. What should I do?

Hmm when I turned on my car I could hear water... But it sounds like its a belt I have asked my friends with rx8 to listen to the noise they say it has to be a belt.

but if they changed the belt and it still makes the noise...... the water you are hearing is gurgling thru the heater, thats air trapped in there. not a big deal but there are ways to get rid of it.

take it to a rotory pro. that's my advice for everything lol. these guys at the dealer don't know how to work on wankles. if they didn't have the manual they would think it was a 4banger

If it chirps for an instant when you rev the engine it is normal. That is the normal combustion noise of the rotary. Sometimes it becomes more pronounced after a PCM reflash, or the battery has been disconnected.

Has anyone had their head under the hood while it makes the noise? The a/c compressor clutch makes noise when it engages and disengages. Of course that noise will be somewhat random.

Sounds to me like a momentary lean out condition. Normal, if only heard at startup and when you blip the throttle.

It's called a "Jet Air valve", and according to Mazda's tech line, it's louder in some cars then others, but a normal operating noise. Don't ask me what it does.... I have the noise, too, and my dealer tech (A long-time Rotary tech who REALLY knows his trade) got the info from Mazda.

Some customers may complain of a high-pitched whine or squeal noise fromthe engine at an idle. The noise can be eliminated by raising the engineRPM slightly above idle. This is most likely caused by the primary port jet air nozzles and / or the metering oil pump air ports. The jet air nozzles are located in the primary port of each rotor. The jet air flow is acheived by using air flow from an area prior to the throttle plate. The metering oil injection nozzles also use this airflow prior to the throttle plate to assist oil flow into the engine. This creates a metered vacuum leak into the engine and may cause a high pitched whine at idle. This noise is considered to be a normal characteristic of the RENESIS rotary engine. Use the procedure outlined in the repair instructions to confirm noise is from the jet air or metering oil pump nozzles. 1.Confirm noise. 2.Remove engine cover. 3.Locate both air supply hoses for jet air nozzles and metering oil pump nozzles. Hoses are attached to the air duct located between the MAF and throttle body. Disregard hose that attaches to the oil filler tube4.Confirm noise is caused by jet air or metering oil pump nozzles by temporarily pinching off air supply hoses using pliers. 5.No repairs should be attempted if noise is reduced or eliminated.

I was trying to separate the engine noise from "other".
The noise in the MRI I posted can be slightly louder in some cars than others.
I had a forum member in a while back and we noticed it on two or three cars.

Ok I just got my car yesterday. Mazda called the tech line and said that its normally becuz some cars it can be louder some cars it can be faint. They told me to keep getting it to high rpm's and maybe it will go away. My friend's 8 had this problem but it just went away. So we will see.

I have such a noise when it is colder outside. It seems to come from the AIR pump (it has a fan of some kind) and it varries with the RPM. The AIR pump is a black assembly located on the top of the engine, passenger side. Maybe you guys can listen to it when someone revs the engine... Mine sounds like a turbine and is louder than the engine itself.

I don't want to high-jack a thread, but today I too noticed a very odd and loud noise at full throttle or dipping into the throttle (In any gear) that resembles a chirp/screech/ultra high-pithced rattle which occurs from 5500-6200 RPM and sometimes occurs even closer to 8000+. I have noticed this since around 250 miles, but today (800+ miles) was the first day I could have the windows down and it was LOUD-echoing off buildings. If it were not so high pitched, I'd think it was an exhaust buzz. Is this a proper description of the sound you are all refering to? I have never had any CELs or anything yet, just this odd sound. Any thoughts?

I am not sure exactly what noice you are referring to? Mine makes a noticable chirp sound when I accelerate after I shift gear at low RPM. It revs up with engine speed, and goes away at mid-high RPM. Is it normal? Is it same kind of noice you hear. sillygirl?

Yes, the noise would go away at mid-high rpms.

ummm... I now have a whine not a chirp. Swear its the bearing. Sounds just like it.
But for some reason I think it's a little behind the water pump. i really haven't checked it out yet.
