my check engine light stays on all the time instead of intermittently. I took in to the dealership because I thought it may be due to a recent recall flash they did to my 04 rx8. the code is p0602 - control module programming error. mazda says the ecm is not communicating properly with the other components and needs replacement. the car runs fine and just passed emissions testing. I want to sell this car but I need to fix this CEL problem. mazda wants $1200 to pop a new computer in. BS I say. so I pay the diagnosis fee and leave. Is there an alternative fix to this problem? does anyone know, or has known, someone who has had this problem with the trouble code? If I need a new ecm, so be it. Maybe it needs a chip installed in my current ecm. I don't know and I need your advice and wisdom rx8 people! like I said the car runs fine, but things like cruise control won't work with the cel on. New ecm? reprogram current one? Alternative fix? i'm serious...need help. not black tape over the light. thanks, mike

Hmmm, if your cruise and stuff is not working then that may be the case. The dealer hooks it up to the WDS system so they may know. I would confirm with another dealer though just to be sure. It sucks to have to pay for that but it is what it is. You could always buy a used ECU and have the dealer push your build data, etc. to it.
