Hmmm... well It started acting up again today. I thought it was getting better but maybe it was just me imagining it. The other day before I added the seafoam I was pretty low on fuel. It was below 1/4 but not fuel light yet. It started acting acting the same way it does at high rpm. I stopped and added put 1/2 a tank and that fixed it.
Today as I was driving down the highway I noticed I was loosing power off and on. I had over 1/2 a tank of gas. It progressively got worse to a point where I could no longer hold a steady speed and then no acceleration at all. I pulled over to the side of the road and it would die. There were no problems restarting. It would run fine for about 1 mile and repeat the same performance. One time I stopped and waited 10-15 min. It went longer w/o having problems but they came back.
I made it home by turning off the car and restarting while coasting. It occurred to me that this is the 2nd time it's performed so poorly. The first time I let it set over night and it has run pretty well since.
I've been under the impression that the rear O2 sensor is only to see if the cat is working, and doesn't effect the performance. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Power!!
Elfinn: I'd recommend checking this out as the '09 pump is a reliability improvement over the 04-08 fuel pumps. If you're so inclined you may want to perform the necessary mods to upgrade to this part.

If I end up needing a new pump I'll definitely consider the 09 upgrade.
I pulled the pump today and the sock was covered in crap. These were taken after i scraped most of it off but before I finished cleaning it. The dark patch in the top pic between my middle and ring finger is basically how the entire thing looked.
They are from my webcam so they are blurry but I didn't was to use my sisters D80 w/ my hands covered in gas.
The stuff on top was hard and broken up. It looked like mud when it dries out and cracks. The bottom was softer and more slimy. I noticed a few flakes in the bottom of the tank that fell off but it looked fairly clean.
After I put it all back together I tapped the brake pedal to clear everything and drove it around to warm it up and fill it w/ gas. It seems to run better than my previous test w/ a full tank I wrote about above. Particularly between 7-9K rpm. I'll give it a few days to see if the issue returns.

Wait... are you saying the rx8 doesn't run on diesel?
haha Not sure about the 2 owners before me but I've only been mixing in Idemitsu I ordered from Mazdatrix. I've only been premixing for about 1yr. Lately I've been buying most of my gas from our local Short Stop just because the have a credit card only area that is always open.
