Yes, people have changed their motor mounts. A common failure point for the RX-8.

690 is a lot, but that's dealer pricing for you. Look around online for cheaper alternatives.

Usually it's the passenger side mount, by the way, the one next to the exhaust manifold.

They are really easy to change. An hour tops your first time. You can find aftermatket ones for 300 ish.

Jack up one dide, pull the wheel. Pull the cover(one push clip) Pull 3 bolts. Jack up the engine about an inch. Then wiggle it out and the new one in. Re bolt, put on the wheel. Remove jack on engine before letting the car down. Then repeat.

When you do this how did you not damage the exhaust?

Its really easy man. Just 3 fasteners on each side. Grab some after market mounts or buy some poly filled ones here on the forums.

There was a guy I bought my poly filled set from, he makes em, not too sure if he's still around. To install jack the engine using some 2x4 under the oil pan. At $690 the dealer is taking you for a ride.

You're only jacking the engine a couple inches, shouldn't have a problem with the exhaust. Put some wood between the jack and the oil pan to spread out the load.

Definitely on the wood. And its not even 2". The exhaust has plenty of room. You'll hit the transmission on the tunnel before you get exhaust problems.

Easy to do but took me about 3 hours. The 3 bolts are not easy to get to and are on there TIGHT! But easily doable in a driveway in an afternoon.

I just use a 3/8" ratchet with a deep socket for the side bolts and a short socket for the top bolt. but I've done it quite a few times with my turbo install so I can't temember the first time. I also turn the wheels. to the left when doing the right mount and vise versa

So are there 3 motor mounts on the RX8? Seems easy to do but still cost $450 plus in parts

THANKS! But they look different from the stock ones, will they bolt right up or do you have to do some modifications?

Bolt right up, BHR doesn't play it any other way.

If your car is not a daily you can also fill them with polyurethane. Takes seven days to set and is super easy to do. I purchased a used set of mounts and filled those with poly since I daily my car. Costs about $85 total.

If you have an 2004, you'll likely have a problem with top long bolt being seized up and also if you don't have air tools or an impact gun with enough torque.

One side on mine was seized and I cut it out with an angle grinder, had new mounts going in so I wasn't worried about the old ones. Penetrant and Impact tools are recommended.
