Damn it, my car shakes like a big massage chair, The hot weathers down here in ATL only makes it worse. I couldn't find where the problem is. How many of you are experiencing the same thing and can not get rid of the rough idle.
I got 04 VR with 88,000 miles on it. Please post your year, mileage and if you found the source of rough idle came from.

Could be many things. Did you ever have the updated mounts done? Clean MAF? Air Filter?

Had the exact same issue with an '04. Dealer replaced the motor mounts and the smoothness at idle returned like it was new.

Buy the mounts at www.finishlineperformance.com , they have one of the best prices on them. It should cost around 100 bucks for the dealer to install them.

if you have something to lift the engine up for A bit like a engine hoist, you can install it easy.

if you dont, u can do it with a good jack and a few pieces of brick.

if you dont have aNYTHING, buy the parts online, and bring it to any garage. cost probably 50 bux to put them on.

Mazda just replaced my motor mounts....200 for the set.

I managed to get free labor since they replaced my engine, so I dunno how much labor would cost.

okay, I've just went up to www.finishlineperformance.com (thanks to invasion08 btw) and i found much better price compare with dealer.
So, my next question is do I need to buy new motor mount bracket too? Also, should I go ahead do both RH & FH side at the same time right?

If you are OOW, contact MazCare. They may be able to replace it cheaper than the dealership.

IIRC, it's the right mount that is prone to breaking. Check the TSB's to be certain. You may need someone to inspect it to verify.

if u see crack it the rubber, its done. replace

99.999% of the earlier RX-8 has this problem.

but honestly you have to replace engine mounts one day. just the matter of time.

Mazda replaced mine, both sides, 3 times.

... and that is what makes me nervous about owning the RX-8 and having it as a daily driver.

While I love the car, I am concerned that it has so many little problems (and one big one).

The updated TSB says " there is no longer to replace the bracket with updated motor mount" So, i guess i only need to get the motor mounts only.

Well, seriously speaking. with updated engine mounts. your car should be able to go pretty long time without any problem

Do you seriously think any other car gives you less problem? Nope

I have a Honda FIT, people is telling me how great it is blah blah blah (other owners on another site), like how wonderful it is compare to my PoS Rx-8 blah blah blah

but when I start asking them about all the little problems that I noticed, they gave me bullshit like "well, doesnt bother me" "its like that" etc. I was like, so, that means your Precious Honda is not really that god-like afterall, so stfu already.

No one said a word afterwards.

I mean all cars come with some sort of little problems here and there ... its just that either people are too dumb/slow to feel/notice them, or they're just being ignorant thinking "its like that"

I got my FIT for a year something, TPMS went bad the next day I got the car, Check engine light was on again for TPMS. a Recall about the passenger side harness might have a short. The seat sensor never worked right, I didnt even bother to go fix it. Oh yes the best one, Windshield was cracked on Last Sunday. Honda said they're not covering it under warranty cuz its considered as road damage, I was like wtf? nothing even hit it. the **** crack when I was just WASHING THE CAR !!!

then he point out some tiny *** chip near the corner. I was like dude, the crack came from ALL the way to the side and when glass cracks, it will have a chip chip off at some point. they said no and like "you can call your insurance company and we will fix it for you ... "

I was like fuxk you guys and called Geico (thank god I paid for Full Glass coverage), then I drove 5 miles away to the garage that I usually (used to be) go to, I rather let them have the business than you ***** at Honda. 811 bux billed to Geico. I was like, wow, this cheap freaking glass that cracks like **** cost 600 bux ? (OE)

The old(er) TSB calls for a complete replacement, which is $$$$ .

now, they want you to just swap one side's rubber. cost less. faster.

My point is that the RX, while I love it to death, seems to have quite a few issues that make me wonder if I can trust it as a daily driver.

My 04 TL, on the other hand, has had exactly ONE problem in the 3.5 years I have owned it... and that was a rattling map pocket.

That's the reason I am afraid to get rid of it even though I have to pay for and insure two cars.

BigMike....I use my 8 for a DD and have been for about 2 1/2 years...no problems...like NYC was saying you're always going to run into something little that needs fixed eventually but it's not like it needs it right now....a bad motor mount you can drive around on till you get the extra cash if you need....a bad motor...u need NOW!....

I am curious about the bracket also. I have a rough idle and am going to do motor mounts soon.

Dude... I bought my '04 RX8 used, with 34,000 miles on it two years go. I just passed 85,000 miles this weekend on a road-trip vacation to Hilton Head. So far, the only "issue" I've had was a bad neutral safety switch that cost me +/-$40 online, and about 15 minutes of time to change out.

And, I use mine for a daily driver (hence the miles in only 2 years!!). And before you give me the ATL temperature line...in Louisville, we get just as many 90+ degree days as the ATL, and we're near 90% humidity every day of the summer (downside to living in a drained SWAMPLAND...) Oh, and we get the occasional single digit temperatures in the winter, which is just as hard on an engine as hot temps, so seriously... there is nothing wrong with the '8 as a commuter car. I LOVE mine!!
