TX Name That Sound + Identify that object!

I literally just got this car last night. Checked it test drove it and everything - don't know that that sounds is and now and it won't start. Please watch the embeded video (soon as youtube processes it) and tell me what you think it is. I sill have time to get the extended warranty too so if you all think that is something this sound is covered by let me know.

Also there seems to be a weird after market switch by the dsc button. Does anyone have any idea whether these things are connected?

Basics:
2004
MT
51000 miles

[EMBED]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBjq6_FBdhU[/EMBED]

I should add that if the video still hasn't been processed you can download it and for w/e reason that works just fine.

The car didn't come with a warranty and I drove it home last night... now it just won't start - wtf is wrong - please help Thanks

WAG (wild *** guess) on no start = flooded? Plenty of threads here on addressing this, also covered in your manual if you got one with the car.

WAG on aftermarket switch = previous owner put the driving lights on their own switch instead of running them off the circuit for the headlights?

thanks

I let it sit all night (incase it was flooding) and tried starting it again but to no advance. It still doesn't start and it makes the same noise.

You should definitely find out if the car has had all the updates and TSBs done.

Did it have any problems starting when you left the lot?

I'm guess you didn't try to fiddle with that switch or ask if they knew what it was?

I've messed around with the switch a whole bunch but no idea what it does. Driving it home stopped for some Mickey D's and it wouldn't start until I messed with the switch. Now it's home and doesn't start no matter what.

Also I don't have a manual so I have no idea what all the light on the dash's warning light display mean. Is there a manual I can download or somewhere that the lights are explained?

You can download a PDF of the US version standard manual here: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...earHome.action.

well none of the lights went out. the one that looks like a batttery is telling you to check the battery. the one that looks like an engine is a check engine light. you need to get the codes read to find out wht that is for.

the one that looks like an airbag going off in someones face is telling you there is an issue with the airbag- which might be what that switch is for- where are you?

then there is the flat circle which is the light for the tire pressure monitoring system telling you that you have a flat tire OR the tpms needs reset.

hmmm what did i miss?

I tried jumping and it sounds like it is cranking so I have no idea why the battery light is on - would that come on if the spark plug got dirty or fried?

I'm in Austin Texas so if anyone is near by has any thoughts - let me know

I was thinking the switch might be for the air bag and I think it seems to effect it

I tried the flooding procedure twice with no luck, is it standard or possible for the engine to be flooded so severely that a trip to the mechanic is required? Also I bought this from a Ford Dealer and have been offered this for a good price (4yr/48k miles - $2k). Do you all think that warranty is worth what I was offered and will the Ford Mechanics be able to take care of my 8?

Update:

I had the car towed into the Mazda dealer and was told that it was starter - does it sound like that to you all?

They just replaced the starter for the full price of $715 and are now telling me that the flywheel is busted and needs to be replaced for $950.

So how much of a scam is that?... not all completely - possible - what are your all's expert thoughts?

Its hard to tell, but it sounded like the starter was turning.
If the gear ring came off the flywheel, the starter would turn the gear and not the flywheel (or anything else).
I've only seen this happen once and it was due to clutch failure.

Again, this is just a theory and I could be wrong.
Only easy way to tell is to remove the starter and try to spin the flywheel gear.
You'll know if its not attached anymore.

The starter was removed and replaced and the car didn't start still so I was told that my starter was fine but that my fly wheel was to blame and that it might be my clutch too.

Lame

I have to wait out the 30-day period for my warranty to take effect before I'll be able to get this repaired. Does anyone have any advice about this?

Update: It was the flywheel. That is the sound it makes when the starter works but the flywheel fails to engage.

Not that any of this matters though. The car also had a headlight out & in getting the Mechanic to replace the light he noticed that the left head light assembly is not stock and the airbags had been tampered with so now my mechanic suspects that the car was in some accident. Upon learning this the dealer has offered to buy back the car at its sale price. I suspect they don't want to be charged for fraud because we signed and agreed to e/thing under the confirmation that no accident with car had occurred. So now I'm back in the market. Lame - wish me better luck next time

Get rid of it, these cars have enough problems as is. Why would you buy a car with a big *** on/off switch anyway? Did you do a carfax?

Seriously......get rid of it. It's not worth the hassle that may lie ahead. Take this as a lesson learned and try to do more research next time. It's a great car, but with the RX8........not if you don't know the detailed history on it.

The car fax had shown it as a no accident history or so the dealer had said. I'm trading it for another RX-8 from one of his other lots that I have another clean carfax for. Lesson learned: always demand a copy of every piece of paper a dealer has on a car. I'm getting the same extracare ford warranty 4yr/48k miles... so hopefully things will be ok.

The switch is and will remain a mystery to me. No matter how many flips it never seemed to do anything. Sorry about your underglows but no... I didn't have any - no clue as to what the switch was for.

the switch may have been to do with the DSC - some people wire it so they can leave it off all the time .
