NEED HELP! CEL codes P0125 and P0172

I have an 04 manual trans. I have been having idling issues for a while now. The CEL has been coming on and going off now for a while and i just keep ignoring it. Now i have some money to fix it so im just posting to see if ANYONE has feedback on this.

Here is wat the computer read:

Code: -P0125
Insufficiant Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control.

What is the Closed Loop Fuel Control? Can someone translate that code for me?

Code: -P0172
System too rich (bank 1)

If anyone could translate those 2 codes for me that would be awesome

Also, here is some number i read while i was getting the codes.
Intake Air Temp: 125.6 Deg F
Air Flow: 6.52 gm/sec
Coolant Temp: 208.2 Deg F

Distance since CLR? can someone explain that to me?

PLEASE HELP

I would pick coolant temp sensor or intake temp sensor is is fubarred...that would make it run rich and throw the 172 code Looks like the IAT sensor is reading kinda high...125 degree intake air is kinda warm.........unless you live in the desert somewhere..or you have a high boost engine

distance since CLR is distance since the ECU has been reset

thanks.. i do NOT live in a desert i live in NJ.. so the temp varies.. right now its cold as **** so there has to be something wrong to have a high intake temp. I do not have any boost running. all i have is a custom exaust and a shitty intake.

So your suggestions are to check the coolant temp sensor and the intake temp sensor.. and most likely replace them both. DO you suggest going back to a stock airbox? or just finding a quality intake like an AEM or someone along those lines.

Its these codes have been on for a while.. and sometimes it has idling issues like it will rev itself up and then drop to the point where it might stahl.. im think maybe the throttle control sensor? but i think if that was really broke it would throw a code. I think its just acting weird on me cause the 2 codes that are showing need to be fixed. Let me know what more you think?

Thanks..

The ECT sensor is likely the most important sensor for the engine running properly..espedially in closed loop..or feedback mode where the O2 sensor adjusts the A/F ratio dynamically.

If the engine is too cold...it runs in "warm up mode" and will supply more fuel cause it thinks the coolant temp is cold....if the sensor gives the wrong signals to the PCM..the PCM will say...hold on...I'm running too rich too long...and will throw a CEL....this is all emissions feedback stuff. Can you log the temp sensor data on warmup?.....Same with the IA temp...cause winter in NJ I wouldn't expect the engine temps or intake temps you posted on a NA engine.

You might want to see if you thermostat is sticking....if it sticks part open it will warm up slow and then overheat later.....

What brand of intake do you have?

Hunting idle could be from intake or neutral switch.

Sounds like the car is over heating to me or the sensor is bad.

You should be about 15 degrees hotter than outside temperture. The temp sensor is under the intake. Maybe it got dislodged and is touching the radiator. I'm not sure if the wiring is long enough to do that.

The intake sensor is integrated into the MAF..the one you are thinking of is the temp sensor for the ambient temp display in the dash

clean your MAF sensor. if that does not work, check your intake piping. did you remove screens? is everything nice and snug? air filter dirty/old? did you do any work on the intake recently? these above suggestions were from Charles Hill, who commented in a post I had in which my car was acting the same way.

also, 127 is way too damn hot. i live in south carolina (90+ weather), and with my AEM i am about 5-7 degrees warmer than it is outside. 15 sounds reasonable wiith a stock intake.
