New AC Compressor and what else?
So I went to a shop today to see why the ac was not working. I thought i could just go in for a system evacuation and recharge and fix my problem. But he came back from hooking the car up to the computer and told me that my compressor was bad . he suggested me to not buy it from him(cool guy member of local car club)because it would be a arm and a leg. He also told me that after I get the compressor that it would be smart for me to replace some other things.. i think he said reciever and driver and some valve.. well i was just wondering is it true do i need to get some other parts to change at the same time so it will not mess up as soon as i get it put in . i will not be tackling this task of replacing it myself. no pressurized systems for me.. thanks for the help in advance

Well the receiver/filter/dryer is part of the condenser and the "valve" he is talking about is probably the expansion valve. If your compressor gernaded, you probably have bits and pieces all through the system, so your tech is right on target with his advice. I'd also recommend a through flushing of all the lines before you add oil and evacuate/recharge the system.

Yup. You can flush the condenser but you are taking a chance on getting all the crap out and there is no way to check it. If flushing is sucessful that's great, but if not, then you get to buy another compressor

Alright so i found some parts as maz max of houston but the guy does not want to ship it to me without verifying that it is the right part. being Houston is not but a hour away. I thought i would go pick it up. But before doing that i want to make sure that all ac compressors are the same..and that the condensors dont have a difference he has one from a 04 auto which Im thinking that they did not make the 6 speed auto until like 06/07 so it has to be off a 4 port auto right? but if there is no difference he has one of a 09 with only 5000 miles for around the same price maybe a few dollars more but newer is better right. And the Condensor is coming from Dallas so are the condensors all the same. all the searches Im coming up with are not giving me a AT/MT option so I dont think there is a difference is thier ?Thanks..

all compressor and condenser are the same.
you do not want to get a used condenser for this car, simply because the drier is part of it, it used have used pag oil that has absorb all moisture already.
a used compressor is OK as long as its not broken, to flush it, pour some new pag oil into one of the holes, hand turn the compressor pulley for 20 times, flip it over keep turning to pour all oil out, reapeat couple of times until it comes out the same color as the new pag oil. one thing to remember is when u turn the compressor, u are building compression so the oil might just squirt out from one of the holes ... those stuff are nasty on ur eyes so put some eye protection and use a piece of cloth to cover the holes as u turn it.
as for the lines, hard lines u can just squirt brake cleaner thru it, for some lines with rubber, flush it with electronic cleaner that's plasticsafe. after u spray cleaner, use compressed air to dry it.
replace all o rings on the system and lube it with pag oil before install. get hnbr o rings if u can, not expensive and last longer than stock rings, they usually come in a bright green color. u can get a AC system o ring kit almost anywhere for just couple of bux.
one more thing, i forgot how much oil the 8 AC system needs, so before u reinstall, if the system needs say 4 oz of oil, just pour 2 oz oil into the compreesor and another 2 oz into the condenser before install. pag oil is very moisture happy so do that flushing and oil thing just right before u install.
after everything is done, pull at least -29 mg of vacuum for at least 45 minutes. check for leaks, if everything is good then u can charge it back with the right amount of r134a, there is a label at the hood to tell u how many oz u need

I actually had a compressor that went bad when I first bought my car, because the dealer that I bought my car from over charged my system 3 times and killed my compressor. I don't wan to get into details of that... But I did end up having to buy a new compressor and condenser, as well as the mechanic doing a complete flush and recharge. I took my car to two places to get this quoted and they both came out to about $950 more or less. I ended up getting a hook up from a personal mechanic, who I now trust on my car for whatever I can't do myself, so I ended saving about almost $200 from those $950. If there is any shop you trust, or maybe you can ask around some people for a trustworthy mechanic, I would imagine it would be somewhere along that $950 price range to perform all of that (materials+labor). I do believe the compressor I got was remanufactured, so that could be another way to save some money. My AC has been working great ever since, and I have a year warranty.
