New Cat, Same Problems. HELP!
mazda dealership just put a new cat convert in my at 8. i pick up car and drive for an hour or two. the car warms up and the same symptoms occur as before and stronger!
loss of power.
the car turned off twice at stop lights.
no power in 1st or 2nd.
from 3rpms to 5rpms loud engine pinging like someone put a baseball card in a bike spoke.
violent engine rumble and shake at idle.
these symptoms come and go. sometimes the car drives fine and then it just hits.
what should i do? please help!

washington, AT. i took the tech for a testdrive and the car didnt act up so he told me nothing was wrong with it. i kept driving for another hour or so and the car warmed up.
it was about 75 degrees outside. i brought it back and took the tech for a quick testdrive around the block since they were about to close. he drove the car. he said it sounded like the cat converter was clogged and that was the problem.
they changed it but the car still showed same problems as before but a little worse since the day was hotter.
i am going to schedule another test drive with the tech this week and see what he has to say.

I just had the same exact symptoms as you are describing on my 6-speed, I took it in to the dealer to have the new starter motor put in, and to have the CAT checked, they did not change the CAT, but they put the new starter in, and along with the new starter come new plugs, and whala, my problem is gone. Car pulls hard again, doesn't have any vibrations at idle, and extended periods of driving are no problem. So, have them perform the TSB on your starter, and you will have a new set of plugs and your problem solved.
