New engine lasts 3 days
#202
Well I picked her up tonight. Drove home the usual way and no problems. Of course it was only about 98 degrees today so it was cool out. I'll see what happens in the next few days of driving.
And let me tell you something.
Don't go from a 350Z to and AT RX-8. I almost cried.
Only in the difference in power. NOTHING ELSE!
I love the RX-8, and the Only thing the Z has is a bit more power. Period!
The RX-8 has everything else. Looks, comfort, smooth and quite ride. I'm in heaven, Mazda Heaven,,,,,,,

Erick- Glad to hear the drive home was good, please keep me informed about how the car is running and if you have anymore issues. Ill be sending an email to Mazda about the FL22 coolant.
If anyone here in the west region changes there coolant and uses the FL22, just mix it 50/50 with distilled water and all will be good.

Well I was driving home last night , and I'm doing my usual thing driving down the freeway. Traffic is kinda heavy. Suddenly there is a slow down in the cars. It seems there is an accident ahead. So I putter along for about a 1/2 mile. Suddenly I feel the A/C go off. I think to my self, things I can't post on here.
Well I look over to the temp gauge and it's over the half way mark, and climbing.
It proceeded to go to about a mark above the edge of the horizontal line on the temp ICON in the gauge. I opened the hood when I got home and saw coolant all over my engine covers.
Will this ever end! So back to the dealer I go today.

1935 lbs. FTW!
They might have simply overfilled the capacity, there's a tube on the cooling system that spews out excessive coolant when it's too full and you get the system running very hot. Typically it's aimed down into the undertray but sometimes it goes everywhere.
Just read all 10 pages of your story though, I think I'd rather deal with crappy British electronic gremlins then this when I sell the RX-8 and get into an Elise, but best of luck to you

hmm this may be an issue with replacement engines, i got mine done last week but before they gave it to me they noticed they tore the radiator hose so they had to replace that before they gave it back to me, sounds like your people weren't as diligent that ******* sux.
Now I'm about tired of the technician bashing that's plagued this thread from time to time.
Please refrain from thinking/stating the Technicians are the culprits behind all this.
I haven't seen anybody on here fix it yet.

So please be open minded and keep the derogatory remarks to your self.
Thank you.

It was about 1/2" over the full line. Checked it when I got home and it was slightly lower, maybe about a 1/4". Yesterday when this happened it was completely full, just a little bubble in the top. And anti freeze all over.

And yes the engine compartment was clean. I cleaned it a few day's earlier.

My concern is that if Karl and Mazda cannot fix your car, what is the prospect on me keeping my 8 alive 10 years?
I hope the issue is something simple, and we all learn something here.

Karl, is our own personal gem. How how handles other customers is his own business.
What is important is that he cares about us.
Much of the problem with many of the service techs in most places (besides their complete ineptitude) is that they have no reason to care.
Karl is, like anyone else who is invested in what they do, always learning. I don't think he would ever lead you to believe that he has seen it all or done it all.
But he will not do something he doesn't understand and I am damn sure that he wants to understand it all, so we are in good hands.

i almost have never seen a lemon law case win against mazda, i had a good friend who bought an 8, that mazda sent our rep from the region up to test drive it for the weekend. they took the case to court and mazdas lawyer said it was a mere case of someone not being able to afford the car he bought.
On a second note about motors failing after being replaced, i know this isnt a mazda story but its relevant to what you are telling me. We have the 8th largest GMC store in the country and ive seen new trucks/suv's need motors at very low miles. It sucks for the customer but stuff happens, you cant get mad at the dealer they dont make the motors they just install them. My grandmother bought a new 2007 yukon denali w/ the 6.2 liter, that bent a valve and needed to be replaced with 15 miles on it.
i guess the good part about having a motor failure when you have low miles on your car is most of the time the company you bought the car from wants the entire motor back so they can take it to engineering and have them look at it.

I checked the level before I picked the car up. And the next day.
It was about 1/2" over the full line. Checked it when I got home and it was slightly lower, maybe about a 1/4". Yesterday when this happened it was completely full, just a little bubble in the top. And anti freeze all over.
