New engine problem, now at dealers...

Hey everyone, hope you can help. I have a 2006 MT RX8 with 45000 miles on it. I started to experience a sound that sounded like an exhaust leak about 2 weeks ago. That quickly progressed to the car hesitating at lower RPMs and finally to just hesitating all the time. I took it to a dealer in NJ and they originally stated I need a new engine. Then they stated they need to run some tests first. They called the next day stating that the car was misfiring and in order to do the tests to see if It is an engine issue (which is covered by my warranty for another month) they would have to replace my spark plugs, coils, and wires (which are not covered) So I would need to pay 1050 to replace those things first. And that Mazda will not pay for an engine unless they fix the other things first. It just sounds like a case of "pay for this and then we will see what happens, now pay for that because the first thing didn't work." And I just have that pit in my stomach feeling that this is going to cost 2500 $ before I even know whats wrong with the car. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

If those are the original coils, plugs & wires replacing them @ 45,000 isn't crazy. That $1,050 quote is, the parts cost under $400 and they can do the work in less than an hour. Where are you located in Jersey? I would do it for a case of Molsen XXX

I'm with Expo. where are you in Jersey?

You don't need to replace the wires unless its showing corrosion at the connectors or at least 60K miles. the coils I have Mazda and I have OE replacement, Spark plugs I have NGK. if you can come NYC I do it for you for free, you just pay for the parts.
