I've had a CEL since the day after I purchased my '05 early January. A week ago Monday they reflashed (guessing the new version) and the light was off the longest it has been since I've owned the car... a whole tank of gas! I just recently got my CANScan in the mail and was able to check the error codes and reset my CEL myself.
My question is... how do I verify they even flashed my ECU?

if it says they did it on your paperwork then they did. if you dont trust them go to anotehr dealer and ask them to use their wds and tell you what flash level you are on. note- you will probably have to pay to get this done.

hmm i had my m flash done around may i think or earlier with no problems, would this be necessary? Getting a dealer to do a flash is like prying teeth here.

I just got the 'N' flash today. The idle is much smoother, but most importantly, the 'bog' I used to get on an upshift is completely gone. I can now shift my 8 as smoothly as I can shift my Acuras - something I didn't think was possible after 5,000 miles on the 8.
I had a dealer tell me that my PCM was up-to-date when the first 'M' flash (old WDS) was around, when MSP04 was issued. My question is this: since 'N' is supposed to be identical to 'M', but is for the new WDS software, is it likely that the bogging I experienced was because I actually had an earlier flash than 'M'?

N 'series' of flashes?
Talked to my mechanic today... they just received a flash in the SERIES of flashes (notably, the N flash) to be released. Apparently, the N flash is a series of flashes required to update your pcm and correct any issues... can anyone back this up or dispute it?

i got the 'N' flash but i still got a flashing cel on the freeway for couple secs. As for gas mileage it seemed to be same to just a tad better but iunno still bad in all cases.

Folks,
Just got flashed yesterday and the car too ;-)
It may be psychological, but there seemed to be a noticable difference in the shifting (much smoother) and acceleration. Don't know and don't care about the gas mileage - didn't buy it for that reason.
Happy Rotaring,

Just got "N" flashed today. The car definetly seems more responsive. I dont want to say more torque, then people will want to have dyno proof which I dont think is there.
I agree shifts seem smoother and and more precise.
The bog above 6k RPM is gone.
The throttle seems more linear. Seems like the car used to jerk more in low speed 1st and 2nd gear while rolling/idleing speed. Thats now gone.
Also, when driving if you took you foot off the pedal it seems to jerk a bit a first. That is gone now, it is a smooth transition from on throttle to off.
No mileage report. I only drove it 25 miles.
All in all Im one happy camper.

Original Turbo 'd Auto !!
I agree with the two above statements. Yes it does feel like there is more power in the <3000 rpm range. Also the shifting is way smoother (AT) in "manual" and auto modes. MPG. for me it went up 2 mpg's, but I cruise @ 75-85 for 30+ plus miles at a time. It feels like I can almost break the tires loose.

N is old....P is new. This is an old thread that has been rehashed. The PCM reflashes are reprogramming the ECU. In the past, these have been attempts to fix flooding on 04 models, stop pointless CEL's(Check Engine Lights), and a few other odds and ends. The "M" flash was on of the first GOOD flashes that seemed to make a difference in how my car actually ran. It eliminated a nasty hiccup at 7000rpm, and seemed to also abate my power loss in the same rpm range. I still had the same 15 mpg and same power....so it seemed. The "N" flash was the most recent, that is prior to the NEW "P" flash. I am still running on "N" now, and it made (IMO) a major improvement in low end power, smoother revving, and stopped producing the black soot on my exhaust tips.
I have to take my car in to the dealer on Monday morning for a couple of TSB's, and I imagine if they have it....I'll be reflashed to "P".
I'll provide in update in the thread for the "P" Flash.
