New fuelpump, plugs, still no start. ugh.

Ive got a 04 gt 6-speed with about 75k. It's was missing pretty bad so I took it this guy a friend recommended. He calls and tells me that my car has died and wont start back. It has never died on me. ever. I dont know how he did it. I try to pull start it and pulled it probably over a mile, nothing. Took plugs out to deflood, nothing. Got a new fuel pump, nothing.

Today I got some new plugs and wires and watched as they sparked while cranking, I know theyre sparking but it wont start!

Here's me trying to start it..

What do you guys think?

Makes sense, that cheap ebay starter I put on it. Ya get what ya pay for...

Any fixing it or toss it and count my losses?

Thinking over it again, my reply was a little hasty. I'm not really familiar with that issue, but from the video it doesn't sound like the engine is turning over at all. The thing is, if it wasn't turning the plugs wouldn't be sparking (since their timing is determined by the ESS). Even if the starter wasn't engaging the pull start should have worked.

Maybe someone with more experience can say for sure, but is it possible that there's absolutely zero compression in this engine? Who knows what that guy could have tried with the best intentions.

Check fuel pressure and all fuses.

u have spark and u can't pull start, if u're sure u have fuel, then ur compression is really low, or ur engine is drinking coolant internally.

but from ur video I see u crank but rpm needle isn't even jumping? either ur starter not engagaing or the flywheel's ring gear (stock) is loose(trust me I seen that before), but it's easy to tell, crank and have a friend look at ur pulleies, if it moves then ur starter works, time to check compression.

oh another thing, make SURE your CAS works, I seen 2 rx8 that has a "Semi" working CAS, from time to time it will not start, sometimes it generates CEL sometimes it doesn't, replace it with a good used one, car starts right up.

Well I tried pull starting before replacing the plugs. Is it possible it was flooded to the point that pull starting wouldnt work?

Wait... Is pull starting even an option on AT cars?

No...but he said it was a six speed.

If your CAS isn't working you wouldn't have spark either

Sure you have fuel pressure?

It sounds flooded..you can't hear any compression pulses when it turns over

Some AT's can be pull started, the RX8 transmission is not 1 of them. Go through the complete de flood procedure again, ensure your battery is fully charged, Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the "on" position.

stupid question probably: Whats a CAS?

Also, could this be a computer issue?

Compression issue?

It is unlikely that suddenly the engine developed catastrophic failure while changing a fuel pump...or any other part for that matter.
Most likely thing is that something got disconnected and not hooked up correctly....the engine got flooded...or something blew a fuse

If it is flooded it should pull start...if it doesn't you likely don't have any fuel pressure. You said you have spark...so the fuel pressure thing would be a good place to start

You can jump the fuel pump in the fuse box by connecting the 2 pins that are at the back rt corner of the fusebox with a wire jumper...that can ensure that you have a working fuel pump...if you can't hear it running jumped then the pump isn't working

UPDATE: started and running like crap

So I took the plugs out and trying deflooding again, got it pull started and it finally started up. White smoke poured out so i probably was flooded.

But now its running worse then ever! Missing and no power. When I rev it high, it back fires so I assume this means its getting plenty of fuel. They're new plugs and the coils are fairly new too so is this an air issue?

Heres a link to it running:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLCY...ature=youtu.be

Dont let that coolant light deceive you, that was popping up when it ran fine. bad sensor?

I also took logs but I'm sure entirely how to read them.. Is the AFR lean?
first one is it idling, second is reved to about 4k

Did you put the plug leads on the plugs in the correct sequence ?

Definitely. Made sure the leading plugs were in leading, trailing - trailing. And used this:

https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/...rder-coils.jpg

to assure the wires were in the correct order

I would check the coil trigger plugs to make sure that they have been put on in the correct order...

What else has been taken apart?

Have you checked your fuel pressure?

and,

since it was flooded, squirt some oil, several CC, in through each lower plug hole. A flood will wash off all the oil, then it is a bitch to start. The OMP does not flow a lot of oil at low RPM.

Best I got right now.

Coil trigger plugs? Are you saying to make sure the coils are put together correctly? I also cleaned the MAF, switched around some relays (looking for a bad one). Like I said in the op, it was running poorly before it was flooded, nowhere this pooprly though, so maybe the problem is not related to the maintenance..

Thanks 04Green but I did get it started and let it run for a good amount of time so it's probably oiled well now. While it took a few seconds, it did start back up after turning it off.

I ended up working on my OMP a while back. The lines drained down when I was working on the gasket. It took a considerable time to get oil back in the lines at idle. I gave up waiting and tossed in some pre-mix. I would assume no oil for a bit at take it easy. There is a lot of oil to build back up if a flood washed it off.
