New K&N Intake questions....

New K&N Intake questions....
Just recently installed the new K&N intake. A couple of things I noticed that I don't know should concern me, or is it just normal intake behaviour.
1) Massive back pressure. In netral, when I tap the gas and rev it to 5rpm and up, I notice a large amount of back fire from the exhast with a 'popping' sound. Is this normal? I never noticed this prior the install.
2) Larger oil smog from the tail pipe. My buddy was driving behind me today, and noticed a blackish smoke resignating from the exhaust. I usually clean/detail my 8 one a week and since I installed my intake, a larger amount of balck gunk is formed on the pipe. Is this normal???
I figure that somone with knowladge of intakes could please insite me on these issues..

how do you clear the computer as you said??? i did the REVI intake with RAM AIR about 2 weeks ago...should i do this computer reset now or is it too late? can u walk through how it is done...is there any downfalls to doin it?

oh also i had that intake on and i have to say performance was horrid at high RPMs until this new REVI ram air was put on and now it drives lilke a bat out of hell and it not obnoxiously loud like the hks....this is quiet under regular driving and when u gas it up high it roars nice and deep
