Newbie Needs Help; Engine Shaking
Okay, so I belive the Alternator is the name of the part im worried about. its an 04 used mazda rx8 im looking at to buy; MAYBE. since im a newbie at engines and such, here goes:
When I popped the hood, it wasnt the smoothest sounding car at idle, was a bit rough. that's the reason i popped the hood. It's the first thing i noticed where the noise was coming from, the belt was spinning around it, but it was shaking back and forth (Left and right; in the direction I aimed the arrows). I'm not even close to familiar with an rx8 rotary engine so is that normal for an rx8? or is it something big, or small? is it an easy fix if it's a problem?
I would appreciate some replies so I can make a decision or not on this car. Thanks

Have u tried checking the nut holding it, is it loose? other than that I can only think of engine mount. But if it drives fine (no power loss thru rpm range), its probably ok because rotary do idle a bit unsmooth... (pulse will be off a bit every few seconds)

That engine bay looks really clean for an 04 - how many miles on it? Has it been in storage for a while? If it hasn't been driven much/hard in a while it may need a good romp or two to shake the "cobwebs" out.
Other things that jump to mind are some of the usual suspects for rough idle on an 04:
- motor mounts
- ignition coils
- spark plugs
- spark plug wires
- clean MAF
