No Gasket?
I recently changed my atf. I ordered a new gasket through mazda and it came in with no problems...upon dropping my pan and emptying the fluid i realize that there wasnt a gasket on the pan to begin with....i have never dropped the pan before and have never had my vehicle serviced to where they would need to drop the pan. My engine did die and mazda replaced it under warrenty but i dont think that they would need to drop the pan. Does anyone know if they do? Does anyone know if this could have damaged my transmission in some way over time? I am not the sole owner of the car. I bought it at 60k miles and realize that this could have been something the previous owner did.

yeah im talking about the pan. i didnt think that they would have the need to remove it but wasnt sure. The previous owner wasnt the brightest because they had a piece of plywood under the battery due to the fact they bought the wrong size battery for the car and needed something to prop it up with. With a smaller battery it meant the battery terminals were to small so i had to buy a new positive connector because it was shot from being tighten down so much.

that doesn't surprise me. When I did my first oil change on my 1958 porsche there was no gasket on the oil strainer. the guy said "well I never really used it, it only leaked a little".
